I've been put in charge of a workplace cheese lunch. Introducing the staff to the world of fancy cheese, hopefully to convert them away from the usual radioactive-orange ...
stuff ... that's out there. But I have no idea what to prepare. French bread, I think? And sparkling cider because we can't have alcohol on the job? But the cheese? What cheeses are near-guaranteed winners, and won't be overpowered by sparkling cider? Help! I wish to go down in history as the awesomest cheese introducer ever.

I've recently become a fan of fiction books with immersing, at times overly detailed but precise illustrations, fold-outs, maps, ads, newspaper clippings. And they're part of the storyline, not just an oh-by-the-way illustration of something that's already fully explained in the text. The only ones I've come across so far are Eric Chase Anderson's
Chuck Dugan is AWOL, Joshua Mowll's
Operation Red Jericho and its
sequel (these are literally overflowing with fantastic foldouts), and maybe even Hans Jurgen Press's
Black Hand Gang books. Although Chuck Dugan is AWOL and the Black Hand Gang books don't have foldouts and maps, they nonetheless have illustrations just stuffed full of detail, and on nearly every page too! Surely there are plenty of others in the same line? Help, summer is here and I must read/see/devour them all.

After dropping out of Mechanics this spring, I'm starting General Physics in the fall. Which will hopefully be easier. I know from Mechanics that I'm terrible at physics, and I WILL fail unless I teach it to myself beforehand over the summer. I won't have any access to physics tutors or a summer physics class. How do I go about teaching myself?

Where should (or shouldn't) I rent a room, while attending CSU Los Angeles? I don't live in LA and am unfamiliar with the area. I have absolutely no idea what places I should be going for, and which neighborhoods to avoid.

Recommend to me books with romantic relationships (not necessarily romance or chick lit) that I can sigh happily, wistfully over?

For the past 4 months, I've been wearing toric contact lenses for my newly-developed astigmatism. My vision now slips out of focus quite often, and I find myself blinking and rubbing quite a bit to get my vision to focus - sometimes to no avail. Is this abnormal, or is this just the deal I get for being astigmatic and wanting to wear contact lens?

I may have hypersomnia, and may be going to get help soonish, because it's starting to get out of control. But! What's holding me back from going for a checkup is that I'm terrified that I may have to go through a barrage of tests that would seem at home in a horror movie. What tests can I expect to be faced with?

A couple of years ago, I read a positive review of a certain gospel choir's album, in a pretty big magazine. Now I want to check them out, but can't remember their name. But I do remember what was different about them - that they sang songs (either original or covers) that featured swear words. Anyone remember?

Help me help my friend remember the title of a movie. (Or documentary?) It starts out with a voiceover over a dark screen - and the voiceover is interrupted by someone saying that voiceovers are lame (or something) and they should cut it out. And the voiceover-over-dark-screen ends. The movie (or documentary?) then progresses in a similar manner, being "edited" in that way, as they go along. Some well-known actors or director was involved. Also, it may have been filmed by a cast or crew member the same time they were filming some big-budget movie. Er, and that's about all I know.

On Windows, what are my freeware or cheap options for image transfer? Preferably something that automates the image transfer from flash card, usb, etc. into folders such as "January 2008", according to the EXIF data. Picasa doesn't seem to do this. The bloatware that came with my HP printer/scanner does, but it's ... bloated.

I've found that I can switch off most calculators without an "Off" button, by simultaneously mashing buttons and pressing "On". (I usually hold down "5" and "6", then press "On".) Can someone explain to me why and how this is possible?

I wish to end my barbaric method of cooking rice in a saucepan. I'm stuck between the Zojirushi
NS-LAC05,
NS-ZCC10, and
NS-TGC10. I've checked the
product comparisons. Will I miss not having "Extended Keep Warm" - and how is that different from the already-present "Automatic Keep Warm" anyway? What in the world is this "Rinse-Free" and "Sweet Rice" settings, and will I miss them? Is "Cake" decent? Why is picking a rice cooker so complicated?

I'm going to be temporarily using a friend's car to commute. The concern is that my friend only has minimum liability insurance. I think I'm a safe driver and all, but I'd prefer for any potential accidents or damage to involve only myself, my wallet, and my insurance - and for my friend to get off scot-free. What do I need to do? This is in CA.

Looking for the film of a trailer I saw a while back: A lesbian couple during World War II. Possibly artists, writers. They live together in a house in Germany. One (or both?) gets captured by the Nazis while stubbornly staying put in the house, instead of making a run for it.

I have an entire year of semi-boredom ahead of me. What projects can I do in this time period, that are substantial, inexpensive, can be done on the side whilst attending college, and will help me avoid looking back and regretting a wasted youth? I've made a font, almost completed writing a book, learnt how to do the splits. What else can I do, other than churn out more fonts and books? Are there any lists of to-do things out there?

Due to my life as a secret agent, I constantly move house. Futon, possessions, toiletries, books, clothes, my entire life. Living out of boxes sucks, and moving loose unboxed items just
sucks. Are there any fancy systems, boxes, thingamajigs that can help?

My uncle recently sent me some money through my sister. And just as she always has done, she's frittered it away and I'll never see a cent of it. I don't really care because I'm used to it, and I don't care for the money either. But how can I warn my uncle without giving off a "Give me more money" message?

So, in
Swimming Pool ... what in the world is that white stuff that Charlotte Rampling's character repeatedly eats?
Screenshot here. No spoilers within, as long as you don't click on the YouTube link that may give away the story.

My many Windows errors are starting to grate on my nerves. I'd like to do a reinstall - but the recovery cd that came with my Toshiba laptop refuses to play nice (probably due to SP2 or the new motherboard). How do I reinstall an OEM version of Windows XP, without losing my key? Is it even possible to reinstall an OEM XP setup? Where do I even get an OEM version to reinstall from? Aargh!!!! More inside.

Trying to recall the name of a certain cartoonist or illustrator. His work looked like a lot like
Ulf K, but with wider, more curly lines. I think he did mostly (if not all) black-and-white cartoons. Sequential boxes/frames. No dialogue, as far as I can recall. Possibly dead, or quite old.

After years of saggy play-doh models, Legos, dolls kidnapped from young cousins, cardboard sets, and detailing the play-doh with the tip of a dried-out ball point pen ... I'm interested in taking the next step in stop motion animation. Changing facial expressions! Custom colors not available in Crayola's play-doh catalog! Sophisticated sets! All this and more at 24 frames per second! But - how do I equip myself? Which books should I read, the really useful ones that'll be worth their price? Which materials (clay, armatures, etc) are best, and which ones to avoid? What sort of tools? A couple more questions inside.

Looking for a charming comic/cartoon that was on the back page of TIME sometime in 2004 or 2005. Maybe even 2006. An unassuming little chap goes around with some sort of contraption, collecting body heat: from the seats that others have vacated, etc. He gets chased out of town for being a weirdo - the following winter was a cold one.
