A quarter century in black and white.
I remember reading about this in a 70s issue of Seventeen, sometime in the 90s. I've been trying to figure out who the photographer was for the longest time, and I always, always liked this photograph. Seventeen gave it the caption "An androgynous couple in a high school hallway".

Not bad for college kids who need essay-writing practice and maybe some extra money. (Although last I checked, essays were about throwing in extra BS, and certainly not about paring it down to the essential details, haha.)
And the pornstar sister article - yes, that is one goddamn sad story.

I grimace at the media's usage of the word "blogger", as if it's such a delightful and strange quirk.

Bizarre indeed. I recall thinking, Sodomy? Really? Was that the best accusation they could come up with?

I love how the Swedish video has the guy singing "She cleans up our channel" while gesturing towards the (water) channel.

tristeza: OK, seriously, is this poster even *supposed* to look like a photo? It can't, right? It's like a really bad drawing.
UbuRoivas: To me it looks more like a really unimaginative logo turned on its side.
Auz: Tch... kids today.
Yes, but the dude's muscles are still messed up. Not John Lennon. That Dane whatshisface.

Turn Your Bookshelves into Art
This reminds me of a snippet in Anne Fadiman's Ex Libris - where a friend of hers hires an interior decorator to take care of the place, only to return and find the books organized by color and shape.

These Liberty Council chaps need to come out with a book. Preferably with a cover photo as dodgy and unintentional as this Anglican book.

DAMMIT!
Aagh. Although my violin is a cheap one from who-knows-where, it plays better than other, more expensive violins I've come across. My mother loaned it out to a cousin without my knowledge. I flipped out. Doubtlessly I would have had a conniption if I or anyone else had smashed it.
For a year, I played a violin that was on loan to me by a friend. As much as I tried to like it (expensive! beautiful!), it just wouldn't cut it. The acoustics were dull. The... [more]

How do these colleges or students manage to get themselves to Peru, Vietnam, Gaza Strip just for a college newspaper article or their portfolio?

Picking Up Girls Made Easy
BUT HOLD ON... before you go tearing out there on these 'exercises' i'd like to share the following public service announcements from the Seventh Day Adventist Church with you...
When I was attending an Adventist college, the semi-official word was that sex didn't exist. And then they'd have to throw out students who were having sex on the picnic tables outside, or in the dorm lobby.

The neighborhood kids and I played with rubber seeds. It involved crushing the seeds together between hands ... but since we were weak primary schoolers, we'd rock-paper-scissors who took top and bottom, then crush them against a table.
Cheating involved carefully hollowing out a rubber seed, then filling it up with candle wax. Many stories are told about a certain kid's rubber seed that managed to crush the shell of one of these cheater wax-seeds.

Whenever I hear of kids being scared of Bambi and the likes, I can't help but think of them as being such wimps. And they're supposed to be the desensitized youth of America!

Although I do remember some animated film about some bird being wiped out as being terribly depressing. Possibly the dodo. The birds get knocked out and shot at by farmers, one by one, until only Girl Bird and Boy Bird remain. After missing each other just by a sliver for a long time, Girl and Boy finally meet up. And then some farmer kills one of them. Depressing yes, but I wasn't all ZOMG NEED THERAPY NOW about it.

Pre-Videogame Era Toys
Ooh. I had a My Little Pony version as a kid. I couldn't understand the rub-on stuff, or what that little spatula was for. And when I was told how it was to be used, I just couldn't understand WHY anyone would want to go through that whole process. I somehow managed to lift them off and apply them directly. Some got on my fingers at the same time, too. Probably wasted half the sheet. But still, fun times.
Thanks for the post. All this week I've been wondering what in the... [more]

I always wanted to know what happened to that one white girl with face all scrunched up and contorted, possibly sticking a tongue out, at one of the four students. Possibly Dorothy Counts, but pulling up pictures of her on Google reveals no contorted-face white girl next to her.
