Speaking as a non-American, How is Tony Snow any worse than whoever the press secretary was for Bill Clinton? You guys have a real problem. Your government is so discredited that any government employee working for it, including a press secretary, who, let's face it, is told what to do and acts with absolutely no authority to set policy, is basically suspected of being a criminal. It is kind of shitty to slag Mutant like that. And while I'm not sure if I agree with Mutant all the time (I don't have any kind of finance or economics background whatsoever, so it is hard to be critical of his well-supported comments and posts), I'm not sure if I've ever seen him being snarky, and his posts are a hell of a lot better than the typical "Yay! AskMe is not a doctor, and should not be treated as such. Basically, the only way to get an answer with a basis in science is to go to a doctor. Anyone who relies on MetaFilter as a pregnancy test is looking for trouble.

I'm arguing against deletion. Although I think my last two comments to yazi were probably unnecessary, I think the rest of the thread is pretty good. Sure, the first link doesn't provide much context. But several folks quickly explain who it is, and that de Leeuw is actually a well-known personality in Holland (and, although anonymously, pretty well-known on the Internet). The only thing more insufferable than Cory or Xeni is a Boing Boing moderator.

At least the MetaFilter admins are reasonably polite and, whenever possible, democratic. The Boing Boing moderation policies seem uneven or irrational at best, and will do little to promote a healthy exchange of ideas on that site.
