They Might Be Giants at Wolf Trap in VA, June 18, 1994. It was the John Henry tour, their first with a horn section. NRBQ opened and they were terrible. I was in eighth grade. I wore a fez. I met up for the first time with a bunch of friends from a dial-up BBS. It was very definitely the highlight of my entire life at the time.

I sang Little Boxes as a hymn too, in church. When I watched Weeds for the first time, it was jarring (in a kind of awesome way) to hear Ben Gibbard sing a song I learned as a little kid sitting in a beanbag chair. (Unitarian born and raised - no crypto in our communism!)

Anecdotally (...right, because I haven't read that big peer-reviewed study of Mitch fans' drug habits), I can name a good number of people I know off the top of my head who laughed their asses off at Mitch before having ever smoked pot. Self included. Mitch is funny to nerds, stoners, AND nerdy stoners, in my experience.
