MeFi post: From beans to bars
Related: I totally wanted to fpp this guy, who is 22 and has his own tiny little chocolate factory furnished entirely with equipment he built himself. The story's amazing and it's seriously damn good chocolate.

MeFi post: Learning Rabbit is in some ways like human cultural studies, but of course the subject individuals have much longer ears.
Disapproving Rabbits yay! They've been on the blue before, and since then, they've become a book.

I'm a past volunteer at the Great Lakes Rabbit Sanctuary, which I thought made this a little too self-linkish to go in the fpp, but I'm linking it here because it is so happy-making: a video of five hundred bunnies running around. They were part of a crazy huge bunny rescue from somebody's backyard in Reno. Most of them are basically feral and live in the outside run you'll... [more]

MeFi post: Only Shatner can make Satanists melt
What, no Free Enterprise? Featuring Shatner as himself? Now THAT is some fine self-parody.

MeFi post: Umm, would you re-position my beef pellets?
"NONE pizza with LEFT beef" belongs in a Zippy cartoon repeated three times per panel. (I mean that as the highest possible compliment.)

MeFi post: What was your first concert?
They Might Be Giants at Wolf Trap in VA, June 18, 1994. It was the John Henry tour, their first with a horn section. NRBQ opened and they were terrible. I was in eighth grade. I wore a fez. I met up for the first time with a bunch of friends from a dial-up BBS. It was very definitely the highlight of my entire life at the time.

I extend nerdy high-fives to indyz and AgentRocket.

MeFi post: First they came . . .
Paws Layton. Best among my acquaintances are Gozer Harry Byrd and Moonbeam 698 (sci-fi porn!).

MeFi post: You're just mad because I f***ed MetaFilter!
This thread is incomplete without Moxy Früvous. Reason number one to go to a Früvous show was to hear them, e.g., arguing between songs about whether it is or is not a big deal that Deep Blue beat Gary Kasparov at chess. (Text link does not do justice to auditory funny.)

MeFi post: Is There Such a Thing as Sexual Honesty?
As for what is or is not 'sex': If one or both partners does the money shot, it was sex. If not, then it was just pretend. Can it be any simpler than that?

I'll buy that if both partners are men, but it really gets ambiguous when one or, especially, both are women for whom it's more difficult to achieve the money shot. For a woman to have a whole lot of sexual contact - enjoyable sexual contact, even - without orgasms ever entering the picture is not... [more]

MeFi post: And a blue one and a yellow one
I sang Little Boxes as a hymn too, in church. When I watched Weeds for the first time, it was jarring (in a kind of awesome way) to hear Ben Gibbard sing a song I learned as a little kid sitting in a beanbag chair. (Unitarian born and raised - no crypto in our communism!)

MeFi post: RIP Mr. Wizard
You can jump through a piece of paper. The extreme close-up that looks like a mountainous landscape is mold growing on an orange. The tenth word on page 89 is Efrem. Siphons make water flow up. Software can teach deaf people pronunciation by showing them sound waves on the screen to imitate.

MeFi post: Knitting for Geeks
While we're at it, let's straddle the geek/nerd divide: DNA cable scarf and my favorite, this amazing page of knitted orientable and nonorientable surfaces, plus many awesome links.

MeFi post: Demetri Martin - Some Jokes
The test of that would be to see if people who have never smoked pot found Mitch Hedberg to be particularly funny.

Anecdotally (...right, because I haven't read that big peer-reviewed study of Mitch fans' drug habits), I can name a good number of people I know off the top of my head who laughed their asses off at Mitch before having ever smoked pot. Self included. Mitch is funny to nerds, stoners, AND nerdy stoners, in my experience.
