Help me quit smoking.
No advice, sorry, just my experience as a hard-core smoker for more than a decade and loving it! Until it started to become somewhat of a social embarassment, a huge weekly expense, not to mention how my smoking hugely increased the cost of my dental healthcare and other health implications; actually, a big pain in the ass overall. So I wanted to quit. I really, really wanted to quit. Not because someone told me to, but because I WANTED IT, OK!
Finally, two years later,... [more]

Podcasts in het Nederlands/Dutch Podcasts
Bedankt! Ik heb de meest recente afleveringen van jullie suggesties nu op mijn iPod. En ook jouke bedankt, want via radiocast.nl heb ik de podcast van de door mij vroeger zo fel-beluisterde Argos gevonden.
I have to admit, I never bothered to seek out SBS's Dutch offerings, different, but I'll definitely give it a go. (A lovely cold day here in Melbourne today, BTW, although a bit smokey what with the controlled bush fires these last few days.)... [more]

How can I learn to smile?
Nintendo to the rescue:
Nintendo DS players in Japan can now exercise their facial muscles to have nicer smiles and livelier expressions.
A digital camera that comes with the new Face Training game fits into the dual-screen, handheld machine to show live video of the player's own face on the right screen while an animation of a woman's face illustrates exercises on the left screen.
The 16 types of exercises... [more]

Maybe you should try the Beauty Smile Trainer:
"In addition to improving your smile, the product promises to reduce facial sagging, making your countenance more firm and petite."
Sounds good to me.

My Cat Loves Hair
How odd...then again, there's no accounting for cats, which is why I love threads like these.
All cats I have known well enough for them to get that close to me did try to groom my hair (which is longish) and then reacted in much the same way anyone would on finding a hair in their mouths. They would maybe try again once or twice, but after that no more.

Report please.
Love this thread...there's always so much more to explore. Here's my three cents:
Charlie Wilson's War - The Extraordinary Story of the Largest Covert Operation in History, by George Crile (in Australia and the UK it's published as My Enemy's Enemy)
A ripping yarn, although at first I was a bit suspicious of Crile having been a 60 minutes producer and all, but he truly delivers a mind (and back) blowing story.... [more]

Tear my photos
I use SnagIT which does exactly what you're after with a single click. Although not free, it's not horribly expensive at US$39.95 (it does lotsa other things as well). I believe you can even trial the full app for 30 days.

Annoying changes to my MS Word at work...
Try setting your Normal.dot to how you'd like any Word file to be displayed when opening them:
1) Check Tools | Options | File Locations | User Templates to see where Normal.dot might live.
2) Then open it as a template by selecting File | Open and making sure the Files of Type field is set to Document Templates (*.dot).
3) Change it to display things to your liking and save the template.
Next time you open a Word file (make sure you change thw... [more]

I have a toothache
I admit to having a rather troubled dental history: I can't even remember the time I had a #18 tooth (unless the system is different in Australia than where you're from) so caveat emptor.
I've had a full-blown infection in a root-canal treated tooth that had me awake and wailing for four days straight disappear into thin air. The pain was not touched at all by the very serious cocktail of painkillers and sedatives I was given. After the dust had settled my dentist... [more]

Can I Make Myself Like My Boss Again?
"Sorry for the pronoun nonsense...."
Not related to your main issue, but Australian English very conveniently uses "they" as a generic, singular personal pronoun; no reason why that usage should be restricted to the colonies.

Can a woman write a novel like a man?
Not sure about the misogyny or what else might be going on with you, I imagine one could still be a misogynist and appreciate certain women's writing. Also, I've always had trouble taking seriously the whole can-women-write-from -a-male-perspective and v.v. debate. Who cares? As long as you enjoy the writing, and if you don't, well, whatef...I mean how many novels are published each year? Probably more than any sane person can read in their lifetime.
Anyhoo, recently I... [more]
