I've been wiki-pnotized
The ADD parlance is "hyperfocusing," which could be on pretty much anything. In this case, you'd be hyperfocusing on Wikipedia.

Music for wife in labor...
I loved listening to Johnny Cash when I was in labor with my second baby. The rhythm was soothing and constant, and his voice was deep and reassuring.

Where Do Babies(' Names) Come From?
The Baby Name Wizard blog discusses these issues in great depth.
Celebrities (who is currently popular and what they name their children), current events, and the zeitgeist of the day all influence baby naming trends. Particularly trendy names can tend to date people - think of Florence, Morton, Tiffany and Brad - so they tend to die out some time after a peak of popularity, and new names become popular. This process of turnover has become faster in the last couple of... [more]

Is tere such a thing as an iphone deal?
I got mine from yourfreeiphone.com - no lie, although it was a pain in the ass and I don't necessarily recommend it unless you're a glutton for punishment.
If you don't have an AT&T contract (yet?), you can also get a free or cheap expensive phone by buying it and your contract through Amazon. You can then activate your iPhone through that contract and sell the Amazon phone on eBay or the like. iPhones aren't subsidized, but you can still get money for signing a... [more]

Multiple admission to San Francisco Strip Clubs
Not in SF, but there are multiple Deja Vu-owned or affiliated clubs in this area and there is no such thing as an unlimited pass. You can often get "free passes" at one club for the other(s), but you'll still have to buy a drink when you get there. I'm not sure if this is company-wide policy or not. You could call them and ask.

How soon to try again after a miscarriage?
I'm so sorry for your loss.
We were also told after my first miscarriage to wait three months, and we didn't. We started trying again right away, and I got pregnant again immediately. That pregnancy had some complications, though - I had marginal placenta previa because the new placenta couldn't implant where it was supposed to due to the previous pregnancy, and I had a rough birth and lost a lot of blood. My daughter is now 7 and perfectly healthy; I had another... [more]

Improve my pan-linguistic wordpower
Samoud, from Arabic, which means steadfastness, strength and endurance through hardship.
And I'm not at all sure that this is what you're looking for, but in Spain, they curse by saying "Me cago en Dios!" which means "I shit on God!," and there is not a curse word or phrase in the English language which is nearly as colorful, blasphemous and descriptive.

What cell phone/plan do you use?
I was a very happy T-Mobile customer before I got an iPhone (and I love my phone, but I am not nearly as happy with AT&T). Good customer service, good signal, no dropped calls, no bullshit, and you get more minutes for cheaper than anywhere else. Contracts suck in theory but I don't object to them in practice; they make the majority of phones cheap or free, and I'm not planning on going anywhere.
Prepaid is obscenely expensive. If you only use it for emergencies or... [more]

Small mac app idea wanted
I would love some sort of rational way to sync iCal with the millions of web-based to-do-list services out there. The long-url copy-paste-publish thing you have to do is onerous and it doesn't even work all that well.

I got pregnant with my first child at 19, under circumstances that many would see as less than ideal. I was thrilled, and it was still a hard road. I had friends who offered opinions that were similar to yours, and they aren't my friends anymore. I think they thought they were being helpful. They weren't.
Congratulate her - if she's happy about it, that's the appropriate response - and be there to support her in the ways that she sees fit. She'll need the support and... [more]

Is this crush turning me into an asshole?
You met this woman once at a party. For all you know, she could decorate her house with Precious Moments figurines or have terrible politics or spend her spare time kicking puppies.
I'm sure she's lovely, but my point is, you don't know her at all. It's not worth rearranging your life or screwing up her relationship for this. There are three billion(ish) women on this planet; I'm sure there's another equally lovely and single one out there for you to be with.

Do you want to write your own vows? If you're happy with the standard ones, you are perfectly entitled to stick with them, no matter what the pastor says. Maybe write a few sentences about how you feel about each other and what you picture your lives together to be, if you want to add something.
We wrote our own from scratch, and I think they were beautiful and reflected us perfectly, but our ceremony was secular and by no means conventional.

Pregnancy is Weird, isn't it?
What you're going through is entirely normal. I was very young when I had my first child, but I don't know anyone who didn't feel overwhelmed by it at some point. How could you not? Becoming a parent is a huge life change, and it's amazing and thrilling and heartbreaking and scary and difficult. Your life won't be the same. Neither will you.
Parenting is a process of letting go. Humor, patience and the ability to roll with the punches are what will make it better. This... [more]

iPhone, Smartphone or PDA
The iPhone has been out for long enough that any "early adopter" kinks are pretty well-known by now, and it's easy enough to learn that my 6-year-old knows how to use it. It plays better with Macs than any other device out there, and it will give you joy.
I love my iPhone. You should go for it!

Movies with tacked on or ill-fitting endings
Adaptation had the worst ending EVER. When we were in elementary school we used to crack jokes about ending stories that we didn't know how to end with "And they all got run over by a truck." You're the famously brilliant screenwriter, and that's all you can come up with? Really?

Is everyone else having as much trouble with the iPod Classic 160 as me? What can be done?
Yeah, I have mine enabled for disk use with about 60 gigs of various backed up crap on it. I also use iPod and iPhone cables interchangeably and have never had a problem with that.
Is it possible that your iTunes library file or certain files on your iPod disk are corrupted and causing the problem? I went through a series of 4g iPods before figuring out that corrupt data files were crapping it out. Have you tried repairing disk permissions?
