Ebay Art
I have about 20 pieces from ebay. A few folk artists that I bought are now going for much more. I don't really look for names, just for what I like. Ebay is a great place for that.

New baby - what to get now for 18th birthday?
Second the charm bracelet. We are doing that for our daughter and now that she is 8, she loves looking at it and wearing it (only for very special occasions). Do that or an add a pearl necklace. Those are WONDERFUL and then she will have a strand of pearls when she is grown. Just be SURE to get grown up size pearls, 5 or 6 mm. Most add a pearls are tiny, good for children but useless to a grown woman. A nice jeweler will help you start a necklace using adult sized pearls. Either gift... [more]

Shower causing bad smell
Are you on a well? My parents had the exact same thing and they had to have their well treated. The guy poured a very small amount of a clorox type solution into their well and it went away. They would repeat about 3 times a year. You could smell it in the shower so well because it was a large amount of heated water. Made it more noticeable.

Paul Newman is dead
One of my very favorites. I don't think ANYONE has ever looked better than he did in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof". Such a great actor and just a quality human being. Prayers for his family. He will be greatly missed.

Cheap mattresses?
We bought some mattress sets from our local Habitat for Humanity store (US). Local furniture stores donate new sets to help the cause and they get the tax write off. We bought King sets for $600. Other sizes were priced accordingly. It isn't the best set ever but with a pillow topper bought at Wal Mart for $25, it is fine and well worth the money. See if you have a habitat store in your area. They are great for all kinds of finds, appliances to gently used furniture to everything else!!... [more]

Thank you Plinth, I appreciate your kindness in formatting this post. I had to stop reading the other threads because of the garbage therein. If I had a child with Down syndrome, I just don't think I could be so giving to the community.
To all the ones bitching about this having its own thread, is it really worth all the time and energy that you are using to argue that point? A member of this community wanted to help educate the group to something that he deals with... [more]

Kids are cruel. EVERYBODY has had something that some stupid kids laughed at and caused embarrassment. It is a universal part of growing up. Don't let those same stupid dunder heads make your adult life uncomfortable. Get some inexpensive cargo shorts, spend some time outside just to take the glow off the gams and wear those shorts with pride!! Be proud of yourself and save your paranoia for something else. Happy Shorting!!

Jekyll Island off the GA coast has several lovely golf courses and is much cheaper than Hilton Head. Stay at the Millionaires club hotel, a bit of history with your golf get away. Have fun!!

Down Syndrome Testing
Haven't read the article, but I would just like to say that the screening is very, very often wrong. We were told by the head of perinatology at (insert name of large hospital that everyone would recognize) that our son had a 95% chance of having down's. NINETY FIVE PERCENT!!! That was after the ultrasound that measures the nuchal space. No blood work had come back, just the ultrasound that the tech did WRONG and therefore got the wrong measurements. Now this guy was the HEAD of the... [more]

Bravo Liza, I appreciate your comment. You were able to separate your politics from your personal decision and what was going to best for you and your family. It is so easy to sit in your easy chair, laptop in lap, with drink in hand and comment about "what I would do," or "What you SHOULD do". I really appreciate knowing what someone else who has been in the diagnosis chair did. The news that there may be something wrong with a pregnancy/baby (yes, I saw my fetus as a... [more]

What makes people vote Republican?
This comment by Purtle rocks. I am a Southerner, and somewhat conservative and I usually stay far away from these threads because, well, you know. I really appreciate Purtle's insight and her observations of the people around her. She doesn't agree with them politically but has taken to time to understand where they are coming from and why they might feel the way that they do. And coming from a very conservative background, I feel like her observations are spot on. Calling conservatives,... [more]

What is the hardest part about being a teacher?
Agree with "parents" 100%. I can't tell you how many parents I had who fought me tooth and nail on everything, always to the detriment of their children's well being! Very, very frustrating. Now that I'm a parent, I always try to keep that in mind!

Wah Wah Wake Up
I'm not sure I agree with your statement that "all babies do it." Mine didn't. When they were newborns, everytime they awoke, they were either being held or in a sling or lying next to us in bed. As they got older and transitioned to sleeping on their own, they would wake with some sounds, coos and just baby babble. Now, my children have both been VERY easy and I realize how blessed I am but I just don't agree that it is something that all babies do. I agree with the poster above... [more]

I think you'll find this is the real deal
I'm confused. Clayton County is just south of Atlanta. It is very urban and no where near the north part of the state. The town of Clayton is in Rabun County Ga. Now it is up "north". Up near Helen, Ga and the mountains. It seems like if this was real, they would get their locations correct.

Help me find a classy gift for a newborn Norwegian girl
I would get a very nice First Christmas ornament. You can get a crystal or sterling silver one for about $50. Have it personalized with your Mom's and the baby's name. It is small enough to travel well and something that they will use and think about her every year. If they don't celebrate Christmas, maybe you can do something similar with something that they do celebrate.

My bet is on normal too. Sounds like the craziness that starts happening with hormone flutuation during BF'ng. At one year, baby is eating more other foods and your body is adjusting. Get the test and check with your Dr but I'd bet you are fine.

Happy Hundredth, Mr. Hooper
I remember this episode like it was yesterday. I was older, not really into SS anymore but my brother watched so it was always on in our house. I cried like a baby for days. Mr. Hooper had a large part in raising me. I loved him and was really crushed to learn of his death. Thanks for this post, I haven't thought of him in a while. Happy Birthday Mr. Hooper, I wish my kids could know you like I did.

Too much love in the home?
My children are 7 years apart and adore each other!! My daughter, being the eldest, helps me to care for her brother and does a fabulous job. He worships the ground she walks on and totally lights up when she comes in the room. The dynamics may change as they get older but this notion that 5 or 6 years is a terrible age gap is crap.
Also, I have lots of kids toys in my living room. So there!!
