Burning CD/DVDs on Laptop

I own this laptop and I love it except I am having trouble with the cd/dvd burner. It reads just fine but when I try to burn, no matter what program I use, it doesn't burn properly. Sometimes it leaves the disc blank or leaves a song here and there blank while other songs are burned properly. Do you think it's a defective burner or something to do with how it communicates with the OS?

Fantasy Football

I am looking for a quality free fantasy football site that offers a live draft where I can adjust the drafting to allow each player to take 24 hours to pick. Essentially an email draft. AOL has one but I abhor AOL and will only use them as a last resort. I like Yahoo's fantasy football interface but they don't offer an email type draft.

Personal photos from the Pacific (WWII)

According to the photographer's daughter, "All photos in this collection were taken by then Lt. and later Capt. George S. White, my Father, while he was serving in the Pacific as a pilot. They are generally between 1945 and 1948 from what is documented." My favorites? The barmaid or postwar Tokyo or wrecked planes and airplane graveyards.

Internet Comedy Radio

Any good internet radio stations that specialize in good stand up comedy? Stuff like Hicks, Carlin, Cosby and Pryor with a mix of good new stuff?

Good Meat

I grew up in northern Michigan and spent my early years eating wonderful hotdogs and sausages cooked by Polish geniuses. Where in the Charlotte-Piedmont-North Carolina-anywhere in the southeast can I find a good meat market? Something like this.

Moives under 90 minutes

I show movies to assisted living residents at a retirement community. Movies over 90 minutes tend to be too long. I need a list of quality movies (made before 1970) that are 90 minutes long or less. Any suggestions of movies or where to find such a list?

Using a monitor to advertise

We are looking to purchase a flat screen monitor or television that can cycle through files so we can advertise programs at a library. We want to be able to hook a flash drive up to it and use word documents. Any suggestions? Essentially we want to do this without having to ask our IT guys to hook up another PC for us.

Library of Congress Historic Baseball Resources

The Library of Congress has unveiled a baseball history section on their website. You can see old baesball cards, panoramic shots, a section for teachers and, coolest of all, a video of a baseball game shot by Thomas Edison in 1898.

Podcasting and Paying Royalties

I do a little podcast that about ten people listen to. I just play a few songs and do intros for them. What I want to know is how do I find out if I am required to pay anybody to use their songs. Should I bother or just depend on being so small time that I don't have to worry about it? Also, what's a good piece of software for mixing my between song patter and my music? Right now I am using the software that comes with Nero.

A Picture Counts

On Sept. 4th, 1957, a 15-year-old girl named Dorothy Counts took a walk that changed Charlotte. The photograph was taken by Don Sturkey. He took a lot of great pictures of North Carolina history.

How Dangerous is this Guy?

Giuliani promises a bigger longer war than we got right now with W. This from a guy that used his command center in NYC as a love nest. Of course, the Onion sums it up best.
