Ask post: What the hell is BIGLAW?
I agree with every sentence written by anonymous above. Working very hard nearly every day, under significant stress, is standard for many BIGLAW attorneys. It wears you down after a while.

The responsibility given to a new big law associate will vary depending on a lot of factors. Some new associates hit the ground running, quickly figuring out the "big picture" of litigation or deals or whatever they're working on. Others take a couple years to fit in, even... [more]

Did I mention that lawyers have a higher rate of alcoholism than the general population?

Ask post: A Harley is a motorcycle, right?
Thanks for your responses, and I apologize for the vagueness of my question. My biggest concern is that we will drive into the city and end up without a way to park, so ideas for parking, alternatives to parking, or reassurance about the parking situation would all be welcome.

Amtrak is a great idea, but I just checked online and their last train from Milwaukee to Chicago leaves at 7:30, before the concert even starts.

Thanks so much for your help everyone! Skatz, your first hand report was exactly the reassurance about parking I was looking for. I think we'll take your suggestion of driving there early and exploring the city during the day.

Ask post: How to write law school exam answers?
It sounds like your writing style is perfect for a law school exam, so I imagine the part you need help with is the substance. Law school exams are difficult because (as you said) you get no information about how to study or write for them, there are often very few or no past exams to look at, and on top of that, professors vary wildly in the type of exam they give and how they grade. It's a bit of a crap shoot, but there are things you can do to maximize your chance at success.... [more]

Honestly, I'm not sure screenplay structure will be a helpful template for your law school exam answer. For example, rather than "Set up everything about the people involved" in the Issue and Rule section, you should simply state the issue and rule in 1 or 2 sentences, max. It's crucial to include that information, but at the same time, you will get almost no points in that area because almost everyone in your class will have the same thing. You'll get the most points by spotting as... [more]

Ask post: How to get rid of small bumps on forehead?
I had a friend with something similar. When she went to the dermatologist thinking she had acne, she found out they were actually very tiny warts. I don't know what the treatment was, but I think it was fairly simple.

Ask post: How do I approach apartment hunting with a dog?
I just finished apartment-hunting in Chicago with a 10-lb dog very recently. I was looking in the River North, Gold Coast, Streeterville and West Loop areas, so this advice will probably apply best to those neighborhoods.

The dog will cut down your options a bit and will probably take away some of your bargaining leverage, but Chicago is a pretty dog-friendly city overall. None of the landlords or owners I talked to wanted to see my dog, even though I offered. You'll... [more]

Ask post: How to stop a dog's aggressive behavior during walks?
Thanks for the great advice everyone! I think the piece of the puzzle I was missing was feeding the treats to her continuously when people are around, rather than giving her one treat and expecting her to remain calm. I tried this technique this morning on our walk, and it worked beautifully. We'll keep it up! Thanks!

Ask post: They can't ALL be lying...
Scientific: The pill, like any other form of birth control, is not 100% effective. Even with perfect use, 1-2 women out of 100 will get pregnant over a year of use. (FDA)

Anecdotal: My best friend got pregnant about three months ago while on the pill, even though she did not miss a dose and was very careful about taking it on time.

Ask post: Do you miss me yet?
A little late in commenting here, but in case you're still reading:

Based on my own experience in a similar situation (which I explained a bit in a previous answer to one of your questions), I would say you need to make a clean break, work through your feelings about the situation, and find a relationship that really makes you happy. What you're doing now could drag out for a very long time. There's a good chance that you two will get along better... [more]

Ask post: Why can't I get Gardasil at 27?
I got the first round of Gardasil when I was 28 from a university health service.

Ask post: How to mentally and emotionally re-break up with someone?
I was in a codependent relationship for a long time, with lots of breaking up and getting back together. I didn't break the pattern until I got some counseling to figure out what was missing in my life and in myself that made me keep going back. The counseling not only helped me stabilize my feelings about the relationship (in my case that meant breaking off the relationship for good), but it also helped me become the person I feel like I'm supposed to be -- confident, secure, and able to... Ask post: The things you say
I get a very similar feeling, but it's always in response to watching someone else wrap presents (very bizarre, I know). I have no idea why it happens only in that specific situation. Watching people do other menial tasks doesn't usually trigger it. I kind of daze out a bit, totally relax, and feel kind of sleepy.

Ask post: Selfish or Seen the Light?
I was in a very similar relationship to yours, but I was in the position of your boyfriend. It lasted almost ten years, and it probably should have ended much, much earlier. I agree with much of the advice above, but I thought I'd add another perspective from someone who was once in the same boat. My relationship was the on again/off again type, although neither of us ever dated anyone else in the off periods. When the relationship finally ended (badly), it was much, much more painful than I... [more]
