BragFilter
Popular opinion says that this megapost on mashups is my best thing, but I feel that I could have prepared much more and linked to three times as many artists now.
My favorite posts of mine would be a tie between two interview posts: "George Clooney Meets The Internet" and "Rick Astley Talks About Being Internet Famous." I hate celebrity news usually, but both interviews really showed a great side of the interviewee.... [more]

(Also, someone liked a throwaway comment of mine so much that he made it into an FPP. Sadly, his post grabbed over twice as many favorites than my comment. Ah, well.)

Return of the Return of the MeFi Music Challenge
I'd definitely like a few categories because there were a few suggestions I'd like to see.
I think having "use this word as your theme," "use this phrase in your song," and "create something with this style/sample" would be nice categories.
I'm shooting off something in the vein of the third right now.

Comments should be pointed out as eponysterical if and only if it's not immediately obvious as such.
(if you disagree, it'll be entertaining for all of us if you follow around languagehat for a while and call out any of his eponysterical comments.)

Because you get more favorites this way.

Not funny.
Like I mentioned in the thread, I think it's a case of people throwing out a comment before reading the post. At least, I hope so.

Ubu: I was just being ironic & Americans just don't get irony...
So, I guess you're American, then? Irony is dissonance between what is said and what is understood. Your joke wasn't ironic or even 'black humor' -- it was just a tasteless witticism.

From the green to the blue!
In my opinion, a good post presents an interesting article, website, or video that will prompt entertaining discussion among the MeFites and/or generate additional entertaining content.

gyusan: Don't make every word, or worse, every letter, in the post a separate link.
That's a stylistic choice. Some people love them, some people hate them. As an example, the two posts I made in that style are my most and second-most favorited posts respectively, so I'm of the opinion more people like them than dislike them.... [more]

Yeah, I'm kinda wondering whether to keep it in mine or not. I'm one of the younger MeFites, I guess, but having it there in black and white (or white and blue, as the case may be) is a bit off-putting.

Thanks. I have to give some credit to this script for a game I used to play frequently, though, as it's what prompted me to suggest the above.

Look, Ma, I'm full of piss and vinegar
I like obitfilter because it's usually the first place I find out about the person's death. I like the threads because they provide a place to share stories and take a moment of silence, like in the Gygax thread.
When the subject of the post is someone who has done things people don't like some people feel like they have to say something to that effect. However, that usually comes off as "hey, don't feel bad, he was actually a jerk." If you said that to... [more]

Excellent James Brown comment where?
So, how many times did James Brown die? I know there were at least four deleted posts, perhaps five. Unfortunately, the wiki says nothing about this important part of metafilter history.

Moderation ate my homework!
I'll take this opportunity to apologize for sounding like a jerk for jumping on the post as a self-link with no proof. I got some vibes from the poster having no history other than the ubiquitous 3 comments needed to FPP something, more vibes from the fact that the blog was fairly new and unknown, and even more vibes from his posting of five or six additional comments immediately after I pointed that out. When it was deleted I was in the process of typing up a message to a mod to ask to clean up... [more]

Metafilter self-fashioning
SEO by definition consists of ways to make your website appear high in the search results in the various search engines around. Ideally, the site will be the first one anyone looks at in its general category. These ways never seem to include what (in my opinion) is the best way to get your site popular: having a good website in the first place.

If we can get it started, sure. I've always been interested in playing a nomic, but most discussions usually get as far as this -- everyone saying how cool it'd be and nobody wanting to get it together to start it.

I was thinking that using a thread for the discussion and linear play of the game that could easily be followed by the RSS feed or other methods while simultaneously using a wiki page for the rules just might work.

It seems fairly global that all the online games with anyone have an input lag of about half a second. Games with friends don't have this problem, so you'd be better off trying that.
