MeFi post: Back-to-school in diapers
Currently, we're looking for daycare, and if she wasn't trained already.. we would because tuition is lower when they're trained.

My mother-in-law was in absolute shock that we hadn't begun potty training our 18 month old, and I told her in America we wait a little longer than the Czechs. I know my daughter very well, and I will know when she's ready.
Our Czech friends with children put them on a little potty and either feed them their meal or give them a... [more]

MeFi post: Bozo the Clown dead at 83
How ironic. I just taught my toddler today how to play THE GRAND PRIZE GAME! And speaking in all caps is not easy, but she got the importance of the game.
We loved every moment of it.
Thanks Bozo!

MeFi post: George Carlin Dead at 71
On Inside the Actor's Studio, when asked If Heaven exists, what would he like to hear God say when he arrives at the pearly gates. George Carlin's answer was, "Now we're going to have some fun around here."

Hear, hear.

MeFi post: Peculiar corpses
I had seen a documentary on this once before and if memory serves me correctly, some of them had wax faces and hands as to not scare the public viewing the body. I guess the skin may not decompose, but it still loses hydration and the eyes sink in (or turn to dust?) and is a bit frightening to look at.
The doctor who was viewing the incorruptible said the body had decomposed to a certain point but now because of the glass enclosure, it had slowed the process down tremendously. It's... [more]

I wonder if any of these saints have been mummified (secretly or just by burial tradition) and then passed off as incorruptible? Or maybe by living as they have (fasting, low stress, etc..) has made their body decompose at a slower rate? Or the glass box they're living in is specially designed to slow down or to null the decomposition all together?

Why would they dig any of them up though? Just for curiosity sake?

MeFi post: Remember Me
My mom was diagnosed with liver and colon cancer 2 weeks ago. Even seeing this I have hope. I need hope, she needs hope..
I'm 31.. but I may as well be 13 when you hear your mother may only have 6 months..

I'm so sorry for Carolynn, her husband, and her children. My heart weeps.

MeFi post: Lies I've told my three year old recently.
I love reading all these stories.. and it makes me wonder what will happen when the time comes that our Peanut will begin asking questions. I think I'll take my Dad's approach.

I was watching a TV show about aliens when I was a kid, and I made the comment on how ugly they are. Without skipping a beat.. my Dad put down his newspaper, looked at the TV screen and said, "They don't look like that", and went back to reading his paper. I was in too much shock to... [more]

MeFi post: R.I.P., Suzanne Pleshette
My father fought hard with my mom to name me after Suzanne Pleshette. He said that she's a knock-out. My dad won and I am indeed named Suzanne.
So one . for Suzanne and one . for my dad

MeFi post: Where do they all belong?
After reading that, I am going to log off right now and write a letter to my grandmother-in-law and see how she's doing.. and tell her I miss her.

Thanks for reminding me not to forget.

MeFi post: :'-(
Animal Crossing sounds like something my own homebound mom would like to play, but now I'm too scared that she'll leave presents for me too and I'll find them later.
That would push me over the edge if that ever happened.

MeFi post: Growing up and living with Crohn's disease
This is a surreal moment for me. From seeing an online comic about it to seeing a commercial with people laughing saying, "Don't let Crohn's stop you from living!"
My brother passed away due to complications of Crohn's in 1984, he was 15 years old. He was misdiagnosed by many physicians claiming he was mentally ill and causing his own symptoms. They said it could be a combination of anorexia and bulimia and the effects of those two on his body caused him to have BM... [more]

MeFi post: Wake Up Cat
This video is so true and represents my experience with a 26lbs cat on my back (Dominik) in the morning while I was 4 months pregnant. and that's also why we gave him away. Now he's with a couple who appreciates and loves all of his quirks.

MeFi post: Surprisingly, Space Jam isn't listed
No one ever saw Raggedy Ann and Andy? That traumatized me. The freaky scenes of some lollipop thing, the kidnapping of Babette (who I couldn't stand), and some dude who grew when he laughed.

MeFi post: Nick Cave, the Black Crow King, is fifty today
I was introduced to Nick Cave on a trip to a spooky cemetery with a guy I barely knew. It captured such a raw situation for me that I've appreciated NC ever since. He's the essence of atmosphere.
Thank you for such a great post.

MeFi post: Hail to the Chief
When I was a kid I lived in Egleston (Emory University) for a few months, in 1984, with my family as we were by my brother's bedside. I experienced a few Make-a-Wish Foundation events including my own brother's.

Anytime a celebrity came for one of the recipients they would always walk through the hospital meeting other kids. Therefore many kids benefited from that one wish.
My brother asked to meet David Hasslehoff and KIT, and they showed up. However, it... [more]

MeFi post: 'Officially, the church doesn't condone breaking the law'
They had an indoor smoking ban in my hometown and there were a few bars and restaurants that spent a lot of money cornering off a section of their facility and installing an expensive filtration system. Then every month they would pay a fine for allowing people to smoke in their building.
I wonder if other places (in other countries) can get away with something like that or is it because it's in podunk Georgia?

MeFi post: and the meteoroid is a stone that's devoid of the fire that propelled it to thee
I've read Stardust and love it. I'm a huge Gaiman comic fan (not so much his novels fan), but I'm iffy on this novel being turned into movie. Some books are just better left as books... and the movie plays in your imagination.
However, I would be interested to see if Good Omens was finally brought to the big screen. They've been trying to for years, but it keeps stalling. I think they said there's always something wrong with the screenplay? But I could be wrong.
