Words With (Metafilter) Friends
Get well soon, mathowie!
"V" is for "Valiant"
Would Sunday afternoon be compromise? Not too late on Sunday for the Monday day job people and not on Saturday for those not happy with that date.
I'm okay with either Saturday or Sunday. Combining multiple meetups like this sounds like a lot of fun. (And helps us shy people to blend in a little bit - more people to listen to. :)

Just caught up on this thread and noticed the MefiMail (what can I say, it's my first MefiMessage - I'm just not that popular!).
I have to drop out anyway because I'm totally broke thanks to my Christmas shopping. I hope you guys have a great time, and I look forward to the pictures! :)

What are MeFites doing?
MeFi on Google Earth
this is so neat!
If any other Canadians were having trouble getting precise latitude and longitude for their location, try Geocoder.ca.
I feel safer choosing a nearby landmark as my actual long/lat coordinates, but it's amazing just how easily we can actually pinpoint ourselves and everything around us!
Whenever I look at the satellite images on Google Maps, I want to put a big sign on my roof that says "Hi Google!… [more]

The origin of geourl and finding MeFi members near you
I'm glad that lattitude and longitude are being talked about for the world. It's neat to see who lives near who. (and has great potential for "hey can I stay with you" when mefi-ers are travelling)
In Canada, postal codes can cover a very limited amount of places. (e.g., my postal codes for both work and home cover only the individual buildings I'm in). This seems to happen in cities more (duh - more people) since when I entered my hometown's postal code, it… [more]

How about the women of MetaFilter do their part in making MeFi a Girlzone?
another girl here...most days this place feels fairly androgynous and some days it feels more boyzone-ish. girlzone-type stuff does happen once in awhile (see threads on knitting, quilting, and unauthorized internal exams).
That said, I've learned the genders of a few posters I didn't know before. When I'm not sure, I tend to think it's another boy. There's that assumption thing coming up again.

MeFi gets print love in Chatelaine
Can someone educate me?
However, let's not generalize here. Everyone doesn't read the Onion. I looked at it for the first time (after hearing much about it) when I saw the post talking about the issue as a whole, not linking specific articles. I'm not new to the Internet, I just don't read the Onion. And That's Okay.
But since it seems most Mefi-ers read the Onion regularly, it's fair to say don't post articles from it, cuz then the Metafilter front page looks all "been there, done that" to many users.

userbase has been growing at a near-exponential rate
I just joined Metafilter on the 9th (of April), after months of semi-lurking (meaning I didn't visit everyday, but fairly regularly). I haven't posted much (I think this is number 2) cuz I don't have a lot to say - yet.
I might have an ID from almost a year ago, but I couldn't tell you what it was. I bet there are lots of IDs like that.
Just a perspective from a less regular poster.
