Is it still possible to get Metafilter shirts? I'm going to some blogging events in the near future (April and then in July), and I would like to look like the cool kid while I'm there.

With members flaming out in rapid succession recently (and I know that people do this all the time, but we seem to have a cluster right now), how difficult would it be for The Button to require email verification, say 24 hours after it is hit, before an account is actually closed?

Thank you, Matt, Jessamyn, PB and Cortex. I don't idolize you. I don't always agree with you. Sometimes your decisions confuse me. Sometimes they anger me. Sometimes your ban hammer needs fine-tuning. More often than not, you are spot on. But no matter what, every little thing every one of you does is analyzed to the nth degree, and I wouldn't want your job. So, thank you for doing the dirty work so I can come in here and obsessively reload every day.

My comment on This thread was deleted, not because of snarkiness or asshattery, but because I doubted the scenario was real. I sincerely complimented the quality of the writing in the post, but simply pointed out (based on my own professional experience as a writer) that it sounded too much like an idyllic encounter written to engage the reader for me to be able to accept it as an actual dilemma. Jessamyn suggested that kind of comment belonged in email or the grey--since the poster is anonymous, here it is.

I'll be in Chicago at the end of July (27-29) for the BlogHer conferences. Anyone interested in trying to arrange a meetup there? I'll be in the Navy Pier area. Suggestions for possible meetup locations near there?
