A 15-year-old in London is being
prosecuted for
holding a sign calling Scientology a "cult", during a
peaceful demonstration (0:55-1:40).
The teenager refused to back down, quoting a 1984 high court ruling from Mr Justice Latey, in which he described the Church of Scientology as a "cult" ... The City of London police came under fire two years ago when it emerged that more than 20 officers, ranging from constable to chief superintendent, had accepted gifts worth thousands of pounds from the Church of Scientology. The City of London Chief Superintendent, Kevin Hurley, praised Scientology for "raising the spiritual wealth of society" during the opening of its headquarters in 2006. Last year a video praising Scientology emerged featuring Ken Stewart, another of the City of London's chief superintendents via

A very special '
This American Life' about an administration with the endemic belief that laws only apply to the little people, and a limitless refusal to concede on even petty issues, no matter the costs. The highlight is about immigrant widows of US citizens (30:50). The program also discusses the constitutional beliefs of the presidential candidates.

Hidden among various other breathtakingly evil clauses, part 13 of the
Comcast Agreement for Residential Services says that if the customer doesn't opt out within 30 days of receiving the dense legalese, he gives up the right to sue Comcast in a public court. But (in clause 15g), Comcast maintains the right to sue the user any time they like.
Is this stuff enforceable? YMOMNBAL

We called the USA from a France Télécom phonebooth. Following the instructions on the poster, we dialled *808 and gave our Visa card number. Turns out they charged more than $100 for a call lasting about 10 minutes. Is there anything we can do to contest this?

JavaScript:— I want to call a function to make a scrip.taculo.us Draggable revert (fly back to its starting position). This is easy to do if you want it to revert when it is released from the drag, but I want it to happen when a different Draggable is released from a drag.

Yesterday, the US House passed the
SAFE Act. No,
not that one. Points of note:
- If signed into law, the SAFE Act will require people offering WiFi at their cafe, library, or even allowing their neighbours to use it, who notice that someone appears to have viewed certain
dirty cartoons, or pictures of fully-clothed children looking sexy, to immediately make a comprehensive report to John Walsh's
CyberTipLine, and retain the images, or face a fine of up to $150,000.
- ISPs or email services have the same obligations, and must store all data relating to the user's account, to be handed over to the authorities.
- The Democrats rushed the legislation through using a mechanism intended for non-controversial legislation. There was no hearing or committee vote. The legislation changed significantly before the vote and was not available for public review.
- The bill passed
409-2. Opposed were Paul Broun (R-Georgia) and Ron Paul (R-Texas). The Senate is next, so consider
telling them what you think.

ColdFusion MX 7 and Microsoft SQL Server 2005. There's a lot of
unvalidated parameters in our CFQUERYs. But, I'm told that putting the parameters in single-quotes will prevent injection attacks, because of the way ColdFusion escapes single-quotes. Is this foolproof, or do I have to go in and validate everything with CFQUERYPARAM tags?

When posting to the blue, I'm told that
"1 post has been tagged with one of your tags ( long list of_tags GoesHere ) within the past 24 hours." I think this feature would be more useful if it told you which tag(s) and post(s) it was referring to.
