"W/ Extra Duck"
So... Alan Moore was right after all?
If they weren't doing anything wrong, we wouldn't be shooting them.

"Well it sure ain't Ozzie and Harriet"
I was just talking to someone about the similarities between Leonard Smalls and Anton Chigur. They seem like more than men - they are summoned by other's desire for the violent enforcement of their will. They are the living embodiment of the logical conclusion of vengeance and greed.
I don't know if they could convey it in screencaps, but there's a very obvious cross reference between Smalls shooting critters and flowers and Chigur shooting at a bird.... [more]

Crack Lung
Does this make anyone else sad? I've had a feeling for a while that if she doesn't get the right kind of help she's going to kill herself. I get no pleasure watching someone self-destruct so dramatically with paparazzi cameras documenting every painful moment, and every other blog and message board laughing at how horrible she looks.

George Carlin Dead at 71
I can't adequately express how funny he was.
I used to listen to his albums over and over again when I was probably way too young to do so. George Carlin probably taught me to have Problems with Authority. I thank him for that, especially.

Replicating the Milgram Experiment
A few people have stated that they feel that we should be doing experiments like this repeatedly, to show us the terrible consequences of following authority unquestioningly. I'm not sure that would have the intended consequences.
Even people who know of the Milgram experiment are not immune from the power of authority. It isn't always going to be someone in a white lab coat asking you to do something terrible. Even "fuck the man" antiauthoritarian types... [more]

Nature's Design on Your Desktop
WHAT
Y'know, if you're a professional designer, and cannot design a desktop wallpaper image better than these, you are not a very good designer. In fact, you should perhaps consider a career in hotel management or real estate.

I do think these would be a lot better when one is high.
Now that you mention it, this does seem like something I would need a bong in the shape of a wizard to understand.

And then you can turn it into a bong!

facial hair of Friedrich Engels. Seriously, look at where the dude's moustache ends!
To watch him speak would have terrified me.
Speak, Hell, imagine watching him eat.
I love the way he editorializes each style with his facial expressions. The mouseover on the "toothbrush" is priceless.

“Can I give you a tour? It’s non-binding.”
Maybe it's a cliche, but I'm sure there are plenty of prostitutes who do just want to be loved. Their profession is like looking at real love and affection in a store window, but never being able to touch it.

RIP Robert Asprin
I used to absolutely devour the Myth books when I was a kid. They were funny, fun, fast moving, and comforting. My mother would throw them at me as roadblocks to keep me from stealing her Isaac Asimov magazines and it sometimes worked. I haven't thought about them since then, but I really liked them.

The Hole in the Wall on Top Shelf!
I love it. The cats are so ...catlike. I love naptime, the freaked out fuzzies, the little cat butt on page 2.
The watercolors reminded me of George Herriman, which is very good. So simple. So awesome. I'm going to look at it again.

What follows is a true convenience store conversation.
Once when I was out and about at the ungodly hour of 9:45 AM, I felt that I was in need of the type of extreme caffeine that only one of those energy drinks that are so popular with the kids could provide. I entered the nearest convenience store, and was chuffed to discover that they had the... [more]

Koyaanisqatsi
Hot tip for anyone who doesn't like the score of this film, or Baraka, Powaqqatsi, or any similar film:
You can play them to ANY music, and the synch will almost always be amazing. No, seriously, try it. You don't even have to be high.

Does anyone else think Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead with Vampires sounds really kind of stupid?
Or am I the only person who thinks that vampires, save in extraordinary cases, are usually really stupid?
Also, are we really playing Questions if nobody is keeping score?

Did anyone but me try unsuccessfully to get all and sundry to play a game of Questions in their youth?
Were the other participants familiar with the play, or did you just accost random people and attempt to engage them in the game?

Oil at the Top and Oil at the Bottom
#5 Minneapolis
Minneapolis is the largest city in Minnesota and is clearly a twin city with St. Paul. It is the state's media, business and cultural center. It makes heavy use of bike lanes but also has a well functioning light rail and bus system.
HA! HAHA! Maybe this will convince them to stop telling me to "GET ON THE SIDEWALK" when I am "making heavy use" of the bike lanes!... [more]

OK, whatever, it's art, or not, I don't care. Do whatever you want, you little hucksters, write a pretentious and overwrought statement, bleed and itch and blah blah blah. I can't even get worked up about it anymore. It's art, it's so earnest and Controversial and so very, very boring.
At least they won't have to worry about anybody touching it.

Not fried. The chicken needs to lay another egg so the egg can roll down the chute and fall into the cup at the end of the lever that releases the little car that races across the table and collides with the dominoes that spell out CLUSTARACK.CO.UK, with the last domino falling off the table and onto the trigger of a mousetrap that snaps shut onto the end of a little catapult that sends a ball bearing into a target that goes... V is for Vegetable
I can't imagine hating vegetables to that degree. As a kid, I loved them, especially raw and crunchy mmmm. Except cooked, canned spinach, which I thought looked like dead frogs.
But then, I know grown-ass grown ups who will not suffer a vegetable to pass their lips. One woman I know will not tolerate anything that even resembles a vegetable, except for catsup, which she consumes at an alarming rate (I suppose if it's good enough for Ronald Reagan, it's good enough for... There's a robot beneath the fluff.
When I worked in a thrift store and toys such as these were cheap and readily available, we used to strip the plush and stuffing off and add lights, paint, extra eyes, and extra limbs. I think I still have one or two of them somewhere.
I'm going to put some fresh batteries in them and set them on your bedroom windowsill.

The Open Source Boob Project
1. Jacalata makes a comment endorsing violence in response to a non-violent act
First of all, it was a joke, and everyone understood that.
Secondly, asking a strange women if you can fondle her breasts is not only unbelievably annoying, it's dehumanizing - especially in the context Jacalata was referring to. If you proceed to then touch her breasts without her consent, you've crossed the line into sexual assault territory, which does, in fact, sometimes... [more]
