Ask post: How to include new significant other
Or not.

My parents got divorced when I was 16 (bro and sis were 13 and 10) and my dad always (after the first few months) brought his SO to our birthday parties, as our parents decided to put US first, and do things together, since they all got along fine.

Brockles, no matter what you think of the message, that was what was right for MY family. YMMV.

Ask post: Do partners still sleep in the same bed and why?
I sleep with my SO, and think it has a lot to do with having our having a close, strong relationship.

Ask post: Cheap travel from Delaware to NYC?
The ONLY direct transport I know is Amtrak, but Dover and Wilmington both have Greyhound buses that make the route.

If you can get to Philly, the cheapest way is to take SEPTA to NJT (Trenton) into the city, I think.

Ask post: Should I report an accident to my insurance company even if there was no harm done?
Call your insurance company, and a lawyer, who might offer a free consultation.

Ask post: Her Mother died of Breast Cancer two years ago, what can I do?
I think a card or flowers would be fine. It's great that you are raising money, and she'll be touched that you remembered the day.

Ask post: How can I show my wife that her travels will be OK?
Write her a love letter, that she can re-read again and again.

Maine is absolutely beautiful in July, as are Vermont and New Hampshire. All my really nice memories of vacationing as a kid are up there.

Ask post: Save me from Scroogedom.
Times Square on NYE is the 9th circle of hell. Honestly.

If you like theatre, book tickets to some shows FAR in advance for the popular ones (South Pacific, Gypsy), as you'll be here the busiest week of the year.

Ask post: Should I take a chance on my last chance?
My sister has, and loved her experience. She was 21 at the time, I believe.

My brother is 25, and is going in December.

Ask post: I don't want my kid to hate me because of her handle...
A lot of times, kids will choose their nickname for your kid anyway. My aunt was INSISTENT that her youngest be called "Samuel" everywhere. In kindergarten, he finally got exasperated enough to ask his mom to please start calling him Sam.

What about a nice dress-up dinner with your wife, or wife and kids? Break the routine a little, go somewhere you wouldn't ordinarily be able to afford.

Ask post: Cheap, nice studio within 30-45 mins of Manhattan?
I used to live in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, and nasreddin's suggestion that it's an hour to 90 minutes from Manhattan is absurd. On a bad day, it took 35/40 minutes to midtown on the express.

Ask post: What made your happy childhood memories happy?
My parents used to take us out for dinner every Sunday night for dinner (and ice cream, sometimes, if it was summer). Both parents worked, so we didn't often do family meals during the week. We would talk, play games (mostly educational trivia), and enjoy each other's company.

Also, my dad would take us to the diner every Saturday morning to give my mom some "alone" time, and give us one-on-one (or two-on-one, or three-on-one, depending on my siblings... [more]

Medieval Maven is wrong. You do NOT have to start on Sundays. Talk to your doctor, definitely, but your body doesn't care what day of the week you start your pills.
posted to Ask Metafilter by roomthreeseventeen at 11:12 AM on July 3, 2008
How does that make sense, Violet Hour? If you start on a Sunday, you start the placebo pills on a Sunday, start bleeding probably Wednesday, right? Unless you have the shortest periods ever, it's going to affect the weekend.
