I learned English by reading fiction (mostly sf) in the pre-google era. I deduced the meaning of words by context and invented the pronunciation, since stopping to look up words in the dictionary interrupted the flow of a story.

What's lame is the hysterical, emotional tone of the post and the link.
I almost commented on that post in a hysterical, emotional tone because once a person close to you experiences police abuse and brutality, the topic triggers an emotional, hysterical response. Most times I manage to refrain because I know that not all cops abuse their power.
