AAA - more than roadside service?
Along the same lines as what a few others have said: when my husband's car registration was stolen, we went to AAA instead of the DMV. It took a very short amount of time and didn't make me frustrated and angry, like the DMV usually does.

Is it possible to adopt a cat today in Los Angeles?
Today is the day because I have the day off and can drive around looking at cats!

Here's the followup for the skillions of people who will be trying to adopt cats on New Year's Day in years to come.
I found this place open - the LA Cat Connection! Their cattery is under construction, so most of their cats are being fostered at the moment. I got to meet some of their cats at the vet next door, but they were sick (which is why they were at the vet instead of being fostered.) They were willing to do same day adoptions or fostering, but I didn't feel... [more]

In need of fake worms or lures in Los Angeles
Hey! Thanks for all the answers.
I investigated Sports Chalet last night and found a fist-sized bag for 5 dollars or so. That's pretty good, and I may end up getting a couple bags, but first I'm going to check out some of the other places to see if I can find more for cheaper.

How to keep college freshmen quiet and respectful during a lecture?
This is what I do, and it works, but my population of students is a bit different.
5% under 20
44% 20-30
50% 30-40
10% over 40
Most students (80%) are Middle Eastern or Eastern European. 10% are Hispanic and 10% are Asian. None are American.
I say "(Karl), do you have a question?" Or "(Karl and Emma), what's your question?... [more]

What's uniquely Colorado?
I heartily second Rocky Mountain National Park.
The town right before it (Estes park) has stores, restaurants, fudge, etc.
The Celestial Seasonings tea factory is near Boulder (a little south of Loveland).
Boulder has a pedestrian shopping street that's kinda fun.
Highway 14 north of Fort Collins is a fun drive, but not as good as RMNP.
Fort Collins has good bike trails and places to rent bikes.

Los Angeles Falafel Filter
Gaby's hummus, tabouli, zataar, fattoush, and shwarma are all great.
There are two locations. One is in Venice or one of the beach towns close by. I used to live right by the Palms/Culver City one too, and walked over as much as possible. I miss it more than any other restaurant!
Here's the menu.

help me not order pizza in the room in boston
I went to Boston a few times as a child (between the ages of 7-12) and was so unbelievably excited that you could get a peanut butter and M&Ms sandwich at Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market. The runner up was a fluffernutter, because we couldn't buy "marshmallow fluff" in a jar back home.
Ah, sugar-filled memories.

Dinner help
At some grocery stores, you can find chocolate mousse mixes by the Jello. They are little sacks of powder that you mix with milk. It's a little fancier than pudding and it's not hard at all to make. (Directions: put milk and powder in a bowl and mix until thick.)
I think you need to have an electric mixer/beater to make it, otherwise it won't get stiff enough.
You could put it in a little bowl, top it with whipped cream and call it a pot de... [more]

I must get the musty out!
You probably have thought of this already, but if you can stick a box fan in front of one of your windows, that might help the airflow. If you have storage boxes of any kind somewhere in your condo, you can build a tower of boxes to reach the level of the window.
You can put some baking soda on the stinky part of the carpet, let it sit for awhile (a couple hours), then vacuum it up.
