Best bikini clippers?
I got the one that Smackfu linked to for women and, never having used one before, it's pretty great.

Help! My Leopard is changing its spots!
I ended up restoring my last backup from Time Machine. I'm here to say it works perfectly with the Leopard disk--your computer will be exactly as it was when you last backed up. I didn't lose very much--thanks everyone.
PS It takes forever to reinstall from Time Machine but it does work. I'm going to back up every day now.

Thanks for the responses so far. I have the (I'm told) the maximum memory for the ol' 1GHz G4: 640 MB. No stationery, no photos, no attachments. It's not a nice round amount of time for each send--it definitely slows down when I have more applications open, but even if Mail.app is the only app running, it takes forever. Oh, and no IMAP either. Could 640MB really not be enough?

Firefox takes up the most, then Mail itself, each around 60.

Late-20s unexpected isolation
I'm a girl, but essentially in the exact same position. I think it is indeed common at our age. If you're not in a couple, it's easy to isolate.
I don't know how comfortable you'd feel buying this book b/c of the title, but you could get it from the library. A lot of the advice in there about how to deal with friends having significant others, making friends outside of college, and finding people to date once you're no longer living in dorms with a bunch of potential... Individual policy cheaper than group?
I'm in a similar situation and have found that an individual plan seems to offer me a much better deal than the group plan. I'm nervous about going off on my own (group: Empire/individual: Atlantis) and regretting it.

There is a prescription rider for Atlantis and the fees are identical to the Empire plan (non-forumulary drugs are $10 less with Atlantis).
I do not plan to go out of network as long as there are plenty of docs on the Atlantis plan. (My long-time PCP accepts Atlantis.)

Why is 9th ave called Broadway?
Broadway crosses much of the island Manhattan at a diagonal, so it's between different avenues all the way through the city. But, for what it's worth, it runs between 8th and 9th Avenues from Lincoln Center to Columbus Circle.

Switching from Entourage 04 to iCal/Mail/Address Book
Those are very cool scripts, adamrice.
The thing about Mail.app is it's a very simple program, without some of the bells and whistles of Entourage, which can be viewed as either good or bad, but the fact that it's integrated with Address Book is really essential for Mac users, I think.
You can set alarms for your iCal events so that you get an email message to remind you of important dates. This free download is essential if you plan on using... [more]

I dump big.
I'm with peripatew. Laxatives are really horrible--Dulcolax and the like can be super-painful, cramp-inducing and your movements feel chemically induced.
If you feel constipated throughout the week, try a Fleet enema every now and then. My doctor recommended them for me and it's a very easy way to make yourself go but not in a stay-home-by-the-toilet-all-day way. Gross to discuss, but actually a lot less upsetting than laxatives (that includes Senna, a... [more]

Help my ailing iBook!
Update: I found a whole thread on the Apple boards about this problem existing in new MacBook Pros. It's mostly a mess of complaints and one person who solved the problem by replacing RAM, one who "turns nap off" everytime he starts the computer, but most for whom these and other suggested fixes don't work.
I'd be in heaven if someone could tell me the cause/solution, but it would be great anyone could even decode what the system log messages mean.... [more]

How do I find a financially reliable long-term subletter for my rental apartment?
I have sublet my NYC apartment many times for up to eight months, usually using Craigslist. I have never been "screwed over," but some subletters are better than others. Here's my best advice:
1. Draw up a contract. On it, list all the rules that you want your subletter to follow, and all the rules you will follow. Include the dates, the rent, how it will be paid, on what date.
2. If possible, meet the person in... [more]

Help me stop my seasonal allergy flare-up!
Where do you live? I've had the same thing going on and attributed it partially to the fact that it hadn't rained in weeks...I may be mistaken but I think rain washes the mold/ragweed from the air? Or is that just pollen? At any rate, it rained today where I live and my allergies have instantly relented.
I take prescription Zyrtec for allergies as it has no side effects (no drowsiness).

I've had an okay experience. If you don't have an HTML/XML template that you're using, you're stuck with some severely unappealing options. I think there are cheaper (free?) alternatives as well. I always meant to switch to DadaMail, which I believe is free and quite customizable.

Personal stories about how you stopped procrastinating.
These are really great--it seems the "breaking it down" and "making lists" tacks are really the most popular (and effective). I think ersatzkat's aversion to making phone calls is pretty common.

The responses to this thread have been really generous and interesting. A couple things:
1. Have you tried blogging? It can take up an enormous amount of time and if you did it everyday from 9 to 12, you would be left with a record of what you did that day, and it might be a good way to straighten out your feelings, keep track of how your medication is doing. It could be public or private (I suspect there are many people who would be interested in reading about your... [more]

Earning Quotes from Quirky Comedians
Blurb wrangling, in my experience, is a humbling experience. Whether or not you have a publisher, I think a personal note from the author is always the way to go, along with a formal letter from the editor. You'll have much more success if you go through a friend of the celebrity or a friend of his/her agent/manager. I have never heard of anyone paying/taking money for blurbs, but I've never dealt with anyone but authors (not celebrities).

I really hate going to (genius) bars
This is a bit of a renegade move, but if it turns out that the Genius Bar is going to charge you an arm and a leg, there are instructions online for how to change your own iPod battery. I haven't done it, but there are enough sites to support the process that, if I had a dead battery and no AppleCare, I'd try it before buying a new one.
Apple has its own battery replacement program for about $70. It can be difficult to determine that the problem is definitely the... [more]

Whatever you do, do not use any harsh cleaners on your trackpad. I have a white iBook G4 and was trying to get it sprarkly white and used (stupidly) a Clorox spray. Yes, it made the computer look lovely and new, but it totally deactivated the trackpad and I had to get it replaced.
