Ask post: Yes we can... help me be punctual
Do questions about attending an Obama rally need to be anonymous?

Ask post: What should I tell people about my sexuality?
I like to say "I play for whichever team is winning" or "I am an equal opportunity fuck" - although maybe you could familiarise yourself with the Kinsey Scale and call yourself a Number 1.

Really the only time your sexuality comes up is when you mention it, so if you don't like the reaction either don't bring it up or learn to deal with it. Assumed heterosexuality might be annoying for you, but imagine what it's like for "active" bisexual... [more]

Ask post: The Mystery of the Unringing Phone
If he's working 80 hours a week and still finding the time to send unsolicited texts and emails and finds the time to still see you (8 dates in 6 weeks is a reasonable start, I think) - I think he IS into you, even if you feel like you're doing all the heavy-lifting.

I have been in situations where I have have had to make all the contact - 100% of the time. That's when I call it quits. But it's reasonable to believe that one of the two of any... [more]

Ask post: Should I follow up with a random hookup?
I am also a big fan of the accidental run into approach - I don't know how you fake stumbling across her email address.

Ask post: Create opening for kiss or wait it out?
KISS HER.

(Dude, I'm surprised there was 8 dates without kissing. Most girls I know would think you were "just not into them" if there was no kiss after 2 dates...)

Then she asks me WHY I want to kiss her...

She asked that? I can see her rebuffing the kiss (oh, memories), but why would anyone ask this question? Unless she was looking for a compliment or has self-esteem issues...

But as others have said, talk to her about what she wants - which is so much easier over MSN! And tell her why you wanted to kiss her. Which should make it easier to lead into a kiss next time...

Ask post: Keep the Money? Share the Money? Stupid Money.
Keep the money. But don't spend it yet. See if you hear from Fred in a month, if not it's yours to keep.

I didn't realise Google image search could be told to search for high res pics only - thanks, chasles!

Ask post: Health risks associated with preventing ejaculation?
Do you still need to save tissues? I'm not sure why you would want or need to do it now...

Ask post: How does Fox keep scoring new TV shows from geniuses?
Um, Willie11 - Buffy had seven seasons, and switched networks after its fifth year.

Ask post: ok cupid. i'm ready. any day now.
Yes, the sooner the better. I've found if you leave it too long, either the chatting goes on forever or it just stops cold. Either way it's not good.

A couple of emails then suggest meeting up. Offer your phone number as well.

Ask post: How Helpful Are the Computer People?
The question I keep coming back to is - how likely is the Director to try calling the Big Corp? As far as you know, the Director hasn't even discovered the connection to BigCorp yet. He may well see it's from a Hotmail account and not even bother trying to trace it. If he does do the IP trace like you did, and the BigCorp is as large as you suggest it is, he may decide searching for the culprit is like finding a needle in a haystack. Case closed.

If no one at the... [more]

Ask post: High School Musical Misgivings?
Hmmm, I love stage and screen musicals. HSM is only entertaining if you make fun of it along the way. It's not a great musical at all. If it introduces kids to musical theatre/film, that's the only worthwhile thing it does... as long as they recognise that HSM is not a good example of its genre.

Ask post: Movies with "forgiveness" as theme?
The Passion of the Christ. Or, just read the book. Lots about forgiveness there.

I remember that being a complete downer. Another example of Hollywood ruining the original material.

Ask post: The Art of Writing
Your judgement on "aesthetically pleasing" is just that - your judgement. It's really up to publisher's guidelines. Unless you're creating something a little avant garde - and the spaces need to be there. But even then you're running the risk of looking unprofessional because you aren't following a publisher or agent's guidelines.

I know some publishers ask for a first draft manuscript to have lines double-spaced, so that might be a consideration, too. But... [more]

This is my first attempt to do anything of this sort, and I’ve been using the novels which I like as guidelines to write the first draft.

You should just type it out and not worry about making it look like a finished novel just yet. Double-space your work - it's much easier to read that way. Don't worry about how much space after a chapter heading.

And the best writing advice I've ever received: just write.... [more]

Ask post: What does $400 billion in opportunity cost look like?
I never supported the invasion, I think America should leave now. But how would have US$15,000 in the hands of every Iraqi citizen made a difference? Saddam would still be in power and nothing much would have or could have really changed.

If the Iraqi people had been given the money after Saddam had been ousted, then that's a slightly different story... except you've still got a country without a government or established military.

Perhaps if... [more]

Ask post: We have so much in common. Knowing my luck, he's a MeFite too.
I think if you're back to a couple of hours of conversation a night, then the date probably didn't go as badly as you think it did. Or, at least, he didn't have the same impression of the night as you.

I'm looking for something fun that'll let us get to know one another. I really like the guy and would love to have him as a friend if nothing else.
