I was bullied in elementary school by -- let's call him "Fred" -- who was new to our school in 3rd grade. Fred was short - less than 5 feet tall, but even at that young age seemed to have a remarkable ability to organize people into doing whatever he wanted them to do. IT was eerie. Albert Ellis was a cornerstone of my teen years. My mom had a friend who used the therapy with alcoholics at a Salvation Army center, and so I had access to a lot of his books, especially the perenially in - print A New Guide to Rational Living. Ellis' therapy appealed to me enormously, as a thinking-type person, but I must admit it was not that useful in actually making me feel better during those teen years.

Rupert Holmes did quite well after the pina-colada/HIM era.
He created a show that appeared for awhile on AMC and he has also written some novels if I am not mistaken.
