Ask post: Babymama drama, linguistic.
I do believe that the concept of baby's mama, and baby's daddy came about as an easy way of saying, "The father of my child," or "The mother of my child," in instances where saying, "My husband," or "My wife," wouldn't fit. So I believe the general assumption is that if someone is your baby mamma, or your baby daddy, you are not married (otherwise, you would say husband/wife.)

HOWEVER, there is nothing that prohibits it from being... [more]

Thanks, guys! That was in fact the commercial.

Still, no one I describe this to knows the commercial, and it seems to be nowhere to be found. I remember it was one of the most randomly hilarious commercials I've seen yet.

I've exhausted begging for an apache server set-up (admin: No, oh and-- no.) and installing a module that allows one to view output through our versioning system instead of source. I know that Dreamweaver can execute simple php script, but it isn't doing a good job of it on its own, and I'm pretty sure an extension is what I need.

Any suggestions?

I don't have installation permissions, and anything that needs any sort of indepth installation will be shunned by my admittedly overhassled+overworked admin. I'd like it to be something I can do, as I'm the only person who isn't slavishly clicking fifty different places just to check out a span tag.

signal> Power Mac G5/OSX (10.3)

Where Dreamweaver's testing server function breaks down is that only the TeamSite interface has permissions to actually upload to the development server. So to test locally, I need something 1) installationless, and 2) able to execute php scripts.

Every time I have wet myself has been me being calm and knowing I could make it, and then at the last moment, getting really scared and making a break for it. I think getting excited works on humans the way it works on some dogs, so STAY CALM (piece of advice #1.)

Also, a physical trick is to sit down anywhere and rock back and forth until the sensation goes away. I'm not sure why that works. On the same note, if there's a wall to press your butt against while bending... [more]

A few things that might be of relevance:

1) My optical mouse has stopped working lately. It'll just stop moving entirely (and the inside lights will go dim, the way it does when the computer's booting) until I either unplug/replug it or reboot.

2) I just reinstalled XP, and am in the process of reinstalling all of my programs.

I have a hackz0r friend (no, friend isn't euphemism for myself, in this case) who just *loves* finding free access wireless connections upon which he can do his deeds in untraceable manner. I believe it is a common tactic to drive around looking for unpassworded wireless to use for your exploits. So while sharing is nice, I personally keep my router sealed tight as per said friend's suggestion.

The books were about a teenage boy who has a variety of adventures with lesser Gods and Goddesses, mostly Gaelic/Celitic semideities (the Sidhe), but the last book involved him getting in contact with native american spirits, after taking some kind of traditional herbal sauna with his wacky grandfather.

At risk of being a fangirl, do tell him that they vied for "favorite books" status in high school, and possibly will again now that I know the titles and can snag 'em.

If you don't know what I mean, listen to the song, and snap your fingers each time--exactly as--you hear the siren at the beginning. At some point-- shortly after the heavy guitars begin-- you will have to pause for a beat and then pick up again, if you want to stay on the *main* beat of the song...

Ask post: Update for those who might check: Said friend...
1) Would a background check turn that up, and is it a negative enough reflection to consider retracting a job offer? The job is with a super-conservative international corporation.

2) Where on earth could she possibly begin in getting this taken care of once and for all? Would it involve travelling back to the state in question?
posted to Ask Metafilter by precocious at 4:37 PM on June 3, 2004
BT - no, she doesn't have a license in her current state, and she was never notified. Possibly because she moved to a new state.

vignettist - if it was possible to pay off the fine at this point, she would. As it is, it's been a really long time and it's probably too late to do that without some extra stuff involved.

theora - unfortunately, she'd just turned 18.

How many hands for trying to fix it and letting HR know about it? Heh heh. Heh.
posted to Ask Metafilter by precocious at 6:19 PM on June 3, 2004
Belatedly, said friend turned up that 1) she does have a misdemeanor warrant.

So should she basically give up hope and consider this a valuable lesson? What, if anything, could she possibly say to HR about getting this fixed?

Considering that getting this fixed apparently involves appearing in court again in that other state, which certainly wouldn't be taken care of before the position's supposed to begin.

Thanks for all of the input. To put a close on it, said friend took into consideration all of the advice presented herein.

She's decided to go ahead and take her drug test, be honest and truthful with HR if the other thing comes up, and as soon as tomorrow call to the general district court of her previous county and a lawyer, to get the matter fixed as soon as possible. Perhaps being able to say, "I'm taking care of it," will help her case.... [more]

Said friend called a lawyer who can "stand in" at court for her, and handle all of the proceedings. With the retainer fee and the estimated court costs and fines, it'll probably come out to about $500.

Needless to say, she's really learned her lesson. Really... really... *really* learned her lesson.
