Every day, once a day, give yourself a present.
"I used to go to Bob's Big Boy restaurant just about every day from the mid-seventies until the early eighties. I'd have a milk shake and sit and think. There's a safety in thinking in a diner. You can have your coffee or your milk shake, and you can go off into strange dark areas, and always come back to the safety of the diner."

True Norwegian Black Metal - a great documentary on Gaahl, best bit is where he nearly kills off the film crew by taking to the top of ginormous mountain

Can't seem to track down those 'Bad Black Metal Band' photos... but there was a loooot of over-compensation going on there. But of course, anything a little too macho runs the risk of falling into camp.

I see none of my incisive comments turned up in that Violet Blue video... Well, she's dead to me know. In fact I'm going to add to my blog, just so I can UNPUBLISH it later.

From the Boing Boing moderation thread #673
"Comments are never deleted and very rarely unpublished."
So, can someone, who is more expert in Newspeak than I am, please explain the difference between deletion and unpublishing... because, well, to me they are exactly the same thing.

"This is my boss, Xeni Jardin - a self-made journalist blogger. She's quite a gal. This is Ms Blue. She's gorgeous. She's one lady who knows how to take care of herself; with a restraining order or three, usually. By the way, my name is Cory. I take care of both of them, which ain't easy; 'cause when they met... it was moider!"

Probably way too late to make this comment but I was thinking the other day that it's a bit of balancing act to ensure that forum is not too suck-ass but on the other hand not a major slag-fest (like the Guardian's sadly often are.. ."You got paid money to write this" "The Wire! Again!" "Brooker, you're not funny!" etc etc"

Watchmen Trailer is Up. It's not good.
Wow, I didn't expect all my hopes and dreams and anticipation to drain out of me quite that quickly... what is it, a fucking cartoon! It looks like Heros for god's sake! Too slick, too computary, too much like bloody 300... Yet another piece of action movie CGI infected souless shite when it could have been so much more.

empath, that's an interesting point... but my issue is just with the general look of the thing; as someone pointed out up thread Watchman was, on one level, about how the world might have turned out by having actual superheroes in it... not exactly a good thing, and you can only reflect this in a film by making the film, well not exactly dull, but gritty, warn-in looking realistic cinematography, not super-slick-shiney-cgi-cartoony superheroville that we've seen in so many films already. I mean... [more]

Nicely grumpy Alan Moore interview... apparently if you read his forthcoming novel you'll learn how to live forever, but as it's like half a bazillion words long it'll probably just seem like forever.

I saw a documentary years ago that said there was a higher proportion of brother/sister incest where they had been raised separately from each other and then met each other in later years - kind of a reverse Westermarck effect

The Greatest Sideshow Video Ever Made.
I saw the Jim Rose Circus in Wolverhampton, of all places... good show. I remember there was some fuss at the time as in the London part of the tour the GLC was making 'Lifto' perform behind a screen, the pussies. No screen for us Midlanders!
