MeFi post: What If: Marilyn Monroe, Bruce Lee & Hitler had lived?
Having only skimmed the posts above, hmmm, I'm always surprised at how people who have aged look dissimilar to their younger selves. So, this seems unlikely. I should, however, consult one of those people who ages kids who have been kidnapped, etc., to confirm. In the absence of that expert opinion, it appears that someone just added wrinkles to extant photos of these luminaries.

MeFi post: 30 day sex (or no sex) challenge
Another single person here who has been unwittingly accepting his challenge for years. *sob*

How does this solve anything again? I'm so confused.

MeFi post: Oh, Senator!
Sam.Burdick, I think in the general election candidates try to appeal to the majority, while in the primaries they appeal to their party (but I could be wrong). So he'd be more conservative now.

I don't think this will hurt him at all in the election. But I see Karl Rove in this. McCain's a cowboy, and I think this is a warning shot.

Well, I agree there's no meat, but the Times has a record of capitulating to the White House under its current editorship. But I'm paranoid about Rove's evil genius omnipotence, so take me with a grain of salt.

I also think (and I am overthinking, definitely) that Rove wants McCain to be a sockpuppet if he is going to Prez, like Bush was the past 8 years, and will accomplish this by installing a VP who is the true power. Just like the past 8 years. Word.

And I do think Rove is still lurking around. Not that anyone is listening to me.

chuckdarwin, I cannot bring myself to watch FOX, and now I have a new reason not to. I have nightmares starring Karl Rove all the time. He is so evil, he makes Cheney look like a little bunny rabbit.

Before he was a political correspondent, he was the mastermind of Bush's campaign. Dude's a genius. Seriously.

Sam.Burdick, be careful what you ask for.

I think Rove/Bush wanted Romney. Romney wasn't electable. The NYT article was a warning shot to McCain to reel him into the party -- remind him who is in control. That kind of soft article is not something Keller (the editor) would publish without being strongarmed. (See, I'm paranoid).

McCain is forced to pick Romney or whomever Rove and his ilk want as his running mate and becomes a mascot... [more]

MeFi post: Newsfilter For Terrorism Junkies
Amyms, thanks for posting this - I was really interested and bookmarked it. At risk of showing my laziness, what is the source?

MeFi post: September 2007 polar sea ice anomaly
I must admit I know little, if anything, about global warming other than simple media reports. But noting that the Arctic area was only recorded since the 1970's, and the Northwest Passage is "fabled", to me meaning "heard of before", might the Arctic area shrinkage be a cyclical event? The data aren't long-term enough to show cycles, no?

I hope this is part of a cycle, but would enjoy commentary from those more environmentally educated.

MeFi post: All the news that's fit to print
Great post. I'm horrified, though not surprised any longer by this administration's War Against Freedom, because that's exactly what it is. I agree with chuckdarwin.

MeFi post: oh what tangled webs we weave....GOP Rep McHenry's roomies, and more
I'm a little late to this thread, but this guy is from my hometown and yes, I know him and his family. His politics are so ignorantly, blindly conservative that whenever I see him in the media I am immediately nauseated and have flashbacks of growing up in my miserably oppressive hometown. The small-minded attitudes never fail to amaze me, and if he were, indeed, outed as being a member of a lifestyle class he opposes, I admit I would feel schadenfreude.

Sorry, made... [more]
