I'm looking for an objectively based survey of websites which use css-based positioning versus tables as layout.
I'm not sure that this exists. I don't think there's a programmatic way to tell if a site is using tables or css for layout.
And besides, the numbers for these sorts of things are never the complete truth. For example, the w3schools browser stats are based only a sample of people who visit that site. And who visits that site? People who make web pages, which is hardly your average person. So you can't trust those numbers. It might get you in the ballpark, but it might... [more]

Here's a drawing.
I would say it as about 80% the size of a normal set of teeth.
Now I'm having a inclination that it was some sort of mouth guard, but those aren't usually made of metal. Maybe the whole thing wasn't metal, but at least the teeth definitely were. Maybe it was some variety of "grill."

I was waiting in line to buy donuts at the DD. He came in demanding for a bag to hold all the crap he was carrying with him, which looked to be stuff he just purchased elsewhere. He was carrying various portable foodstuffs, beef jerky, vacuum sealed tuna, etc. and this object.
He was making a scene and it was taking a long time, and I was getting annoyed because I was there first. I commented sarcastically that the clerk should probably tend to paying customers before... [more]

Zojirushi Coffee Maker - Where to buy in Chicago?
As far as being in the actual city limits...
Many of the Asian markets near the Argyle red line have Zojirushi stuff.
Also this Korean market near Belmont & Kimball.
Like limeswirltart, I have never specifically looked for Coffee Makers, but I've definitely seen Zojirushi rice makers and electric boilers at these places.

I'm the same way. When it becomes an issue, I go for compromise.
You try to stop being so critical and they stop trying to be sensitive about it. The idea is to meet halfway.

While my guitar gently weeps... for me?
Keep playing. I couldn't go from G to C for a very long time. As a matter of fact, any time I tried to play C I got all discombobulated.
Some things my guitar teachers have taught me-
1. The idea is to get your strumming hand moving up and down without thinking about it - then you can concentrate on your fretting hand. I like to think of it this way. "Alright. As soon as that crazy hand over there plays this chord 4 times, I'm going to move... [more]

How do I fix a FireFox z-index bug?
Not showing up in Firefox beta 3/mac, or safari 3.0.4, but it is showing up in Camino 1.5.1, which, I believe, uses the same version of Gecko that your firefox probably uses.
I replaced this rule in the css:

Do I tell my engaged friend that I love her?
A very similar thing happened to me.
I told the girl, we remained friends. The next couple of times I saw her, I was broken up about it - but then the strangest thing happened - my attraction to her ceased. I even started to wonder what I saw in her in the first place.
I didn't expect it, didn't even want it, but it happened, so I think telling her was the best thing I could have done. It allowed me to move on.

How in the flash is this going to work?
Fishfucker's got it, this is possible in theory, but some browsers will probably bork it up because flash doesn't take kindly to layers. Definitely try this in multiple browsers. Safari probably won't like it.
Or, do the right thing and tell them to fuck off. This is exactly the kind of crap that cheapens the entire profession.

I agree with jejune. Seeing a picture of a girl with some dude makes me desperately want to close the browser window.

Receive Fax's as PDF
Seconding pagesender. We use it here at work, and it's pretty awesome. We have one computer that acts as the "fax machine" - it receives the faxes and prints them automatically, and also saves a pdf. And Since it's on the network, anyone can use it to send a fax from any application that has a print dialog.
At first we tried using the built-in fax capabilities of OS X but found them too limiting.

Custom font on a WordPress site.
Asparagirl has the answer, if you're not willing to use sifr.
If it's for wordpress, though, I imagine it's going to be content that your friend will be writing on his own, say, the titles of new blog entries. In that case, if you really want to do this, you're going to have to use sifr to generate the headlines. Which means you need flash.
But if it's some sort of content that isn't going to change very often, the method Asparagirl describes is both accessible AND pretty.

Non-Indo-European language families
I'm not sure, but I do remember my Japanese teacher trying to convince us that the differences in Japanese between the north and the south (what I would consider dialects) was much the same as the differences between Spanish and French, since both were descended from Latin.
This, of course, is a load of crap. I considered it nationalistic hubris on her part.
So I imagine it is due to lack of rigorous study.

Is it safe to hang my guitars by the neck?
When I bought my wall hanger device-a-mabob, I asked the people at the store if it was a good idea, and they said it was, that it was actually better for the guitar than being kept in a case. Something about stretching and tension and whatnot.
In my experience, my guitar stays in tune longer when it's hanging than when I kept it just laying around.
But guitarists are as superstitious as athletes, so who knows?

Creating a graphic email signature without attachment
I had to do this for a client once. As I recall, there are basically two ways in outlook to get this to work - 1) Setting it up as a signature or 2) Setting it up as "stationery."
I ended up having to make .html files with the signature and opening up outlook, messing around with the settings to get it to look right, and then writing down the settings as a set of instructions for the client to replicate on their end.
The result is... [more]

I installed xp on my macbook to play games. It worked just fine.
As far as I understand it, having windows installed on your mac doesn't make it more vulnerable, security-wise, when you're booted into mac os. When you're in windows, all the normal windows risks apply. If you get some nasty virus/spyware, it won't be able to touch your mac os partition.

Is the economy fake?
So America became the world's dominant superpower because Henry Ford made cars cheaply? That absolutely doesn't follow.
My take on what Bill Hicks said - The economy is fake because it only as strong as people believe it to be. If everyone were to decide (or somehow be influenced to believe - by the media, word-of-mouth, and so on.) that the economy was "doing well," the economy would just do well. It has nothing to do with any state of affairs in the world,... [more]

It's a fool's errand to think about this in aggregate. It's something you need to figure out per partner. My experience has been that pretty much every girl responds differently to different things that you're doing.
So you need to ask them if they like it, and if you trust their answer, either 1) work on it or b) feel happy and proud that you're satisfying them.
If you don't trust their answer, that's a different question entirely.

Try to move on. Even if you might get back together with her, it's not going to happen as a result of anything you do. She's going to have to decide for herself she wants you back. But, generally, I agree with what others have said - try to avoid her as much as possible.
