Literal Videos
Ever wish songs just sang what was happening in the music video?
The implication of this statement sickens me. Good thing the video caused me great mirth.

Polka Power Digitized for Your Protection
A mere three days ago, the wife and I were visiting the Japanese garden in Ft. Worth, singing "I kissed a koi, and I liked it".
Pity she doesn't normally go for the parodies.

Hue test.
It wouldn't score my test - it gave me a password dialog box and an error. I went back, and clicked Score Test again without doing the test, and it gave me results, so I went back and completed the test again. It gave me a password dialog box and an error. Fuck.

Surname Surfin' Sur-prises
Yeah, I'm wondering about the recency of the data - the third-highest ranked town for my uncommon surname is a city that none of us have lived in for over 5 years.

The Birth of the Ipod
rigging up desktop PCs to their car stereo systems
During high school, my friends and I recorded a few original and parody songs. We uploaded them to a previous incarnation of mp3.com under the band name "Bring Up the Bob". One of the songs was called Traffic Jam, and a user left a review that said "If you're listening to this on a linux-box hooked into your car stereo while stuck in traffic... don't."

I apologize for this horrible Camptown Races parody. Just blame scruss for drawing my attention to the doodads.

Frustrating Flash Friday
I can only see one solution to the dice game. I played this earlier in the week, but I went back just now to look again, and I just can't see any other way for it to work.
Also, the red/yellow rectangle puzzle was one I had to refer to the walkthrough to get. I tells you "what" to do, but now "how," so at least I still had to figure something out on my own there.

Cale/Jackson '08!
I can only ironically suggest The Flaming Lips' Yeah Yeah Yeah Song, but as long as I'm bringing it up, I'd like to mention how simultaneously sad and hilarious I find it that the song, basically about being the greediest bastard you could be, keeps showing up as the background music in television commercials.

Sexy People
Sure, some of these people look kind of goofy, either because of their dress or just because they look goofy, but I think most of us have these types of pictures hidden away somewhere. Lord knows I do.
This wasn't captured in a portrait, but the summer before starting high school I managed to lose my glasses in the ocean. Being poor, my family couldn't afford to replace them, so when school started up in the fall I was still wearing my prescription sunglasses full-time.... [more]

Nintendo Entertainment System Hacks.
Watching the video for the NES belt buckle link, I noticed two things that make me suspicious. First, there's a big jump cut from the guy walking up to the television, and actually playing SMB. Second, there is some sprite flicker going on with some of the goombas. While I can never ever remember seeing sprite flicker when playing SMB on my childhood NES, I distinctly recall downloading SMB for the Wii and wondering why random sprites would flicker. Granted, I've never played an original NES... [more]

‘It was so bad, they [the hospital staffers] thought he'd been electrocuted,’
More likely, they thought he recieved electric shock. I imagine the kid was screaming or crying in pain, and the last thing they would mistake him for was dead.
I know it's a stupid semantic quibble, but fuck does it bug me.

"That kid at your door with a magazine order form will tell you a story -- part sad, part hopeful."
The summer after I graduated high school, a couple of kids selling magazines came to my door one afternoon. After I declined their sales pitch, they tried to recruit me into joining the magazine crew instead. All of the stories I've read about these crews over the past few years make me really glad I declined that pitch as well, maybe even more than glad than declining to purchase the magazine subscriptions.

"iPhone and iPod Touch wallpapers for the rest of us."
Dave Faris
I'm perfectly happy with my iTouch. However, I bought it expressly for watching movies and listening to music on my bus/train commute. I already have a perfectly good phone that I use for talking, and didn't want the additional data plan expense. I do use the wifi at home to check my email or do quick web stuff if the pc is turned off or is in use by the wife.

¡Atención!", "1234567890"
I introduced some friends to these around 2am on a Saturday night a few weeks back. Dimly lit house, two of us with a slight beer buzz, the other two sober. I kept playing mp3 samples until I was told "Seriously, you're scaring me. Stop!"
When listening to these, or sometimes just thinking of them, my eyes mysteriously start watering.

I didn't intend it as a double - I checked the history and linked to the previous threads, which are closed. I wanted to put forth their newer games, particularly Attack of the Buggles. I couldn't find that linked anywhere.
If this is deleted as a double, so be it.
