I'm 24. Let's say I wanted to have a shot at the Olympics, in any sport, at some point in the future. Are my chances over? Is there a sport I could start now, dedicate the next few years to, and become good enough to be a contender? What sport should that be? (I'm not picky.)

My friend has her first novel coming out soon, and I want to get her a neat present to celebrate her major-publisher, first-time author status. Any suggestions?

I love Erik Larson's The Devil in the White City. It's a non-fiction book about Chicago in 1893 which reads much like a novel. I'd like to read other books written in the same novel-esque style about some other cities or historic events. Know of any novel-like non-fiction reads?

Have any of you (as adults) purchased a communal house to share with your siblings? Any tidbits of information? Wise words of wisdom?

Chicago to Houston in one week, two lovely gals, one Camry: We're taking a road trip the week before July 4, starting in Chicago and ending in Houston. Any route tips? Things to see? Do? Quirky free attractions to see along the way?

I'm trying to figure out what percentage of people born in 1890 were still alive in 1920 and then 1950 and so on, until we can say for certain that every person born in 1890 is 100 percent definitely dead. I've looked at the 1890 and 1920 census, but they don't have mortality tables.

Stephen Colbert was just holding up a jersey on The Colbert Report (4/15) that was: part (1/4) Flyers jersey, part Sixers jersey, part Eagles jersey, and part Phillies jersey. Like a beautiful Philadelphia sports patchwork quilt jersey shirt. Can I buy this jersey? Does it exist outside of The Colbert Report?

Is there a website that categorizes songs by mood or subject? Searching iTunes for title words and hoping the title then corresponds to the lyrics/mood doesn't always give the best results.

I'd like to hang prints or drawings or funky maps of each city I've lived in on a wall. I'm wondering what your favorite Philadelphia, NYC, DC, Hartford CT, Rochester NY, and Chicago maps/prints are, or sources for finding eclectic drawings/photos/prints of each one. (The more varied, the better! Old, new, letterpressed...you name it!)

I'm moving to Chicago's South Loop neighborhood. What undiscovered gems should I check out? Ethnic eateries? Interesting social gatherings for 20-somethings? Groups to join? (I currently live way far north, near Roger's Park, which is lovely, but far from work.)

Are there any ferries or boats that take day trips across or around Lake Michigan? (leaving from Chicago...) Right now, Lake Michigan looks like a frozen tundra, but I have dreams of escaping for a night or two during the spring thaw. Are there seafaring adventures to Michigan? to Indiana? to Evanston? Or is this some delusional Gilligan-based fantasy?

I want to buy funky plates and cups (different for each place setting) The more eclectic and weird, the better. Do you have a favorite plates/cup that you got online that are cheap, funny, and safe for human consumption?(no traces of any chemicals that may cause blindness, irritability, etc..)

I'd like to decorate the hallway in my apartment with funky hooks and shelves like
these
and
these. Like the entire wall. All different. I'm looking for as many funky shelves and hooks as possible.
