MeFi post: urban prankster
The only one I wasn't really amused by was the tennis one. I'm in a library laughing with headphones looking like a fool. Thanks!

And I can't get enough of the cocky shit head walk he does every time after kicking the football in this one.

MeFi post: The Big Picture
In A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson, he talks about returning to a city after being on the Appalachian Trail, and he relates a story about an Amazonian tribe taken to a city for the first time where they, according to him, collectively ("and lavishly") wet themselves.

MeFi post: You're Not My Father
Some of the father characters look like they're about to open a can of whup-ass when they make their fists.

MeFi post: Forgiving Buckner
I know there is more to the inning than Bill Buckner. The point is that he got blamed for it. Period.

And I apologize for not including more info on the 1986 game in the original post. I just thought this was a nice moment, regardless.

MeFi post: Echoes of Latin America in José González's music
Awesome post, umbu. I love both Gonzalez and Drake. "Fold" is my favorite Jose song. Everything about this song is perfect. His style seems like an incredible mix of everything; especially his voice. Man, what I'd give for that.

MeFi post: Have You Got It Yet?
I love Jugband Blues, which I believe was Syd Barrets last (or one of his lasts) songs with Pink Floyd. It's lyrics are absolutely eerie, in that regard:

It's awfully considerate of you to think of me here
And I'm most obliged to you for making it clear
That I'm not here.
And I never knew the moon could be so big
And I never knew the moon could be so blue
And I'm grateful that you

I'm with Bonzai. I've liked the majority of the songs from the Wall, and everything that came before. Division Bell was a piece of shit, though.

MeFi post: Comics are funny when you change them (sometimes)
I don't know if any change to Calvin & Hobbes could be as successful as this one.

MeFi post: But for now we are young, let us lay in the sun
It's an excellent CD, one of my favorites.

Didn't somebody on MetaFilter write a book about Neutral Milk Hotel? I'd like to find it.

And golly, he has a purdy wife (who also made a cool film).

One thing about NMH that makes it special to me is that I found their music completely on my own, bascially at random. It was the first music that I found and enjoyed without any influence from anyone else. I literally didn't meet another NMH fan for a couple years.

MeFi post: "So find humor in that, and go ahead and put it in your review."
Billy Mitchell: Does this fortune cookie have my name on it?
Film maker: What does it say?
Billy Mitchell: You yearn for perfection.

You're probably right, SpacemanStix. But there are ample quotes similar to that through out the movie. I don't think Mitchell is a bad person by any means, he just says some pretty ridiculous things, such as his line about how lucky he is and how that means there is some poor bastard out there getting "the screws put to him". I think his portrayal was very funny.

MeFi post: Beirut Music Videos
Thanks for the other links deafmute and LobsterMitten!

I'm with rollerball on this. I've always really liked his voice, though I can definitely see why someone might not like it. But I think his voice is complimented very well by the style of music he plays, and the sort of drunk or dizzy persona he seems to put on in a lot of these videos (which is often accented by the spinning camera).

MeFi post: If you like a ukulele lady, a ukulele lady like-a you
Not covers, but great songs originally done in Ukulele by the band Beirut

Great post!

And this isn't primarily Ukulele, but it's wonderful.

MeFi post: Colors! It's, like, Paint on the DS, homebrew style
I'm not as into video games as I used to be, but the idea of homebrew apps sounds really cool to me. Plus, this reminds me of fond Paint memories.

MeFi post: Photographs of Authors
This is great! I especially like the Jonathan Franzen article.

I think Bill Bryson takes good but not exactly flattering author portraits. Granted, he is going for a more affable image than the rest of them.
