Ask post: Lazy guy doeasnt want to drag each file separately into burning software
seriously? 40 gigs, that's like 10 dvds. it would only take a few seconds to divvy up the files into dvd sized chunks. just use any dvd burning software, e.g., nero, et. al. add files till it says more than one disc is needed, delete as necessary to get it on one disc, rinse, repeat.

Ask post: Mild Concussion has completely destroyed me
perhaps this is relevant, from the 2008 CMTD:

Posttraumatic Headache
A variety of nonspecific symptoms may follow closed head injury, regardless of whether consciousness is lost. Headache is often a conspicuous feature. Some authorities believe that psychological factors may be important because there is no correlation of severity of the injury with neurologic signs.

The headache itself usually appears within a day or so following... [more]

Thanks for the info. I found I actually had "Use alternate display to view presenter information" checked under Presenter Display. I guess that's probably what the problem was. Just wanted to be a bit more sure so I'm not up there trying to get it working when I should be presenting. :)

Ask post: What tests are early "screens" for cancer?
If I understand your question correctly, the answer is because there isn't a super-machine that we can pop into and quickly have it tell us everything that's wrong.

The real answer to your question is that we are being screened. That's what a pap smear is, a mammogram, digital rectal exam, PSA test, etc. If you're at risk and visiting your doctor, you'll be screened. As far as imaging methods go, there are limitations. Most of the devices/modalities currently in use have... [more]

Ask post: People in the Czech Republic have clean underwear, right?
The restaurants and bars in Prague 1 will be much more expensive than in the neighborhoods a short tram ride away. For example, a beer in Prague 1 will cost between 50-86 crowns, but a beer in Prague 3 would only be 25-34 crowns.

Not really, unless you're going to obvious tourist traps. A lot of the price difference between center/non-center has disappeared in recent years. I was enjoying 25kc beer in Prague 1 last night.... [more]

Why not just make them in powerpoint? Keynote could handle it on mac too. Or go the other way- keynote -> powerpoint.

Quizlet is an online solution that might work.

If you want to incorporate your ipod, you could make some flashcards for iquiz using iquizmaker.

Ask post: American seeking work in the Netherlands
I once lived in the Netherlands and all the Americans I knew there were either students or professionals (like exec professionals). I think your options are: get hired by an American company that has a presence there, get married, or go to school there.

A lot of people I knew there solved this problem by continuing their education. Once you're a student (I believe more than half time, not 100% sure) the Visa and work permit are no problem.

If your doctor recommends taking a multivitamin, well, that's obviously more valuable than any "advice" you'll get here. Reading some of this nonsense makes me angry. Research is mentioned is a lot.. care to share some pubmed links?

Vitamin A,D,E,K can be toxic in excess. Have you been eating bear liver lately? (I doubt it, but it's not a joke) Too much Niacin can be unpleasant. Check out this site for lots of good info on vitamins, minerals and trace elements.... [more]

Ask post: m.a.s.h. sign needed
Well, the license for that first pic states: No Derivative Works. You may not alter, transform, or build upon this work. Not sure if that's what you meant.

That resolution would be fine. Something that won't look terrible in a powerpoint presentation. I want to change the text on one sign, so hopefully the lighting would be such that the sign is clearly readable.

I would start over. You're taking a live attenuated vaccine, which means it's alive and needs to replicate inside you to work. You took one as directed, the second was probably destroyed to some extent since you took it after eating.

Put your coffee cup out before you go to bed and leave the pill next to it.

Ask post: Do you lose brain cells when you hit your head?
Generally, no you don't lose any.

It depends on the type of injury and how severe. When you suffer a concussion, it's believed that there is a massive depolarization of neurons leading to unconsciousness. So a full recovery is expected. Contusions are more serious, involving some swelling and some cellular loss. Usually more serious injuries will have components of acceleration/deceleration injuries, and then there is shearing of axons as well.... [more]

Don't ask, don't tell. If you asked, hopefully you won't make the same mistake again. If he just told you out of the blue, well then hopefully if this sort of thing were about to happen in the future you'd catch it in time and interrupt. It isn't, or shouldn't be, a bit deal how many people you or your partner have slept with. But, once the bell has been rung you can't unring it, and since this conversation almost always ends with someone really... [more]

Sometimes I'll read each sentence as though it ends in an exclamation mark. Can be quite funny. Usually though when I have a ton of boring material to get through I just try to plow through it. Ask post: Microbiology filter
A counter-example might by syphilis, .. streptococcus pyogenes

T. pallidum and S. pyogenes are bacteria, not viruses.

In answer to the OP, it really isn't that simple. You have to really understand the pathophysiology of the disease to understand how it manifests. Just because a virus is only able to enter a particular type of cell doesn't necessarily mean that the manifestations of that infection will remain confined to that... [more]

Ask post: Honeymoon hotel in Prague?
I'd say your budget is a pretty low, especially for peak tourist season. The chances of you finding any deals at the end of June are slim at best. I often recommend this hotel to people since it's relatively cheap, nice and in a great location. It's within your budget.

I'd also recommend checking out this site. I've used it a couple times and found some great deals. You'll want to find something in Prague 1 or 2, unless price won't allow.... [more]

People that talk incessantly are used to being interrupted and shooed away. You don't have to feel bad about doing it, and they won't really be surprised by it either. Just as people that push their own agenda are used to being told no.

I've been living in Europe on the dollar for about 6 years, and it's only been getting steadily worse. Sure it might go up for a bit, but the overall trend is down. Waiting for a good rate is really stressful, and most likely you'll find yourself in a situation that goes like this: 'ok, if it just gets back up to what it was yesterday/last week/last month, then I'll change it'

It's still usually cheaper to fly than take a train as long as you plan in advance. WizzAir was mentioned above- the discount Hungarian airline. The Czech Republic has a discount airline too called Smart Wings. For cheap travel agencies there is Student Agency as was mentioned, but for flights I think GTS International is better.
