Help me "Put on a Happy Face"! (sorry, had to do it)
Thanks for al the great answers! They were a big help -- I was just "stuck" for some reason. I spoke to him this afternoon and he was such a nice, down-to-earth, "real" person. I had been so nervous about this interview for no reason. It went really well -- he is so well-spoken and often "speaks in quotes," which is every journalist's dream. I would post a link to the story when it comes out, but I just really want to keep my username on here totally anonymous ..... [more]

Actually, I could send the link to anyone who wants it (when it's posted in a month or two) if you MeFiMail me. Does my profile let you do that? I'm not sure... ?

Please help me take my dream job without going broke!
Thanks for the answers so far!
I just checked my current employer's website, and it looks like if you work 17.5 hours or more, you're eligible for similar benefits to FT people. (Like I said, my employer has a great benefit plan!) The health care premiums are higher for PT people, of course.

Update: Oh well, it didn't work out... He seemed somewhat receptive, but then after I submitted a proposal and met with him this afternoon, he basically said, "Sorry, no." I accepted the PT job anyway and I'm submitting my resignation tomorrow. In the remaining month (I have to give that much notice, I'm told!), I'll be looking like crazy for something to supplement my dream job! I think something will work out.

Why do some people wear shoes indoors?
I almost always leave my shoes on in the house. (When we move into our new house, though, my husband and I have decided to not wear shoes inside -- to keep it cleaner.) I think it's just habit. Another reason: I'm short and I wear shoes with about 2" heels, so when I take them off, my pants kind of drag on the floor, and I don't like that. And my shoes are pretty comfortable anyway.

Please help us avoid mold in the attic.
Thanks for all the answers! If any more are forthcoming, here is some more info: house was built in the '40s; climate is hot/humid in the summer and very cold in the winter; the attic has a louvre vent (?) on either side and a roof vent that is currently blocked by insulation. The bathroom was remodeled very recently, before we bought the house.

Ganglion cyst surgery
You probably have already done this, but have you tried wearing a wrist brace to immobilze your wrist joint? I've had success with one -- my orthopedic surgeon prescribed it for me, and I wore it during the daytime for six weeks. I had to wear it again later on when I had problems that cropped up again, but not for the last few years or so -- knock on wood. He had mentioned surgery but never explicitly recommended it.

How can we keep our cat healthy post-surgery?
Both of our cats had bad UTIs (but not as serious as your cat -- I hope he can come home tomorrow!), so after a few times, we switched them to wet food only. Before, they ate both wet and dry. We feed them Wellness canned food (chicken flavor) which is a pretty high-quality food that also contains blueberries and cranberries -- and just as with people, cranberries can help cat urinary tract health. The cats are definitely producing a lot more urine now because of all the liquid content of wet... [more]

Crooked teeth=not sexy
I had braces as a kid, and now that I'm nearing 30, I'm still wearing a lower retainer one night a week (as recommended by my orthodontist, who -- fortunately -- adjusts my retainer yearly for free!). It always hurts when I wear it each week, because my bottom teeth keep moving. The scary thing is, my orthodontist told me that the lower teeth never stop moving after they've been corrected. And he said no one really knows why. Pretty scary/annoying... So I suppose I might be wearing this... [more]

Gaithersburg MD affordable homes?
I'm not sure about exact prices, but you might want to take a look at townhouse rentals in Frederick or maybe the Damascus area.

Kitty questions of a miscellaneous variety
1. Microchip: It's possible for microchips to migrate, but I can't feel my cats' chips either. Why don't you call your vet so you can feel better about it -- they'll probably say it's fine.
2. Tail: I think this is normal -- even though my cats are older, even one of them chases and bites her tail from time to time. I bet this behavior will decrease as he gets older, but I'd suggest distracting him with a cat toy when he does this.
3. Table scraps: I would feed zero... [more]
