Traditionally, media doesn't print names/photos of people only accused, but not yet convicted, but not always. Lots of towns have a police blotter section where arrests are listed.
Here in Seattle, the FBI recently
asked
the public for help in identifying two men seen acting suspicious on the ferry system. The
Seattle PI has decided not to publish the photos.
Other local media have. The
commentary on if the PI made the right choice follows predictable paths...

These days, you don't have to be rich to have all the
right stuff, at least for the
night. Going
deep or flying
high, these days you don't have to be rich, to pretend. Just a good credit card, and no thought for the future.

Tangent.cx
is now online.
Endquote first came up with a concept for automating self-linking within his own blog. Now he's expanded the idea so that you can build a network of content-driven-sites that auto-link their content with your own. The niftiest part, to me, is his new link pop-up menus, so that one word can link to articles from multiple sites.

Take my 4th Ammendment, I don't want it
...I find it amazing that some people will actually sign up for this. Basically you put a decal on your car that tells the police they can pull you over without cause, between 1am and 5am. Ostensibly to prevent car theft, and late-night joyrides by teenagers. Even if I didn't drive late at night all the time, this strikes me as a foolish bargin, giving up far too much, for far little benefit.

Takes money to make money
Does this creep anyone else out, as much as it does me. Sad to see how the web, where everyone used to be equal, is slowly conforming to the real-world model of money = worth.

So called Gnutella-worm....
So, I'm sure one or two of you have seen press coverage of the supposed spread of a set of vbs-worms, through the Gnutella community (Napster without a centralized server for those who don't know what it is). I have to agree with the Gnutella-folks statement, that this is more an exploit of windows and user-foolishness, than anything technically skilled. What's interesting to note is that it seems to be having a chilling effect...usually there's somewhere around 5,000 hosts, and 10 Terabytes of data online...today, there's barely 1100 hosts. I would have thought the average gnut-er was smarter than to fall for a vbs-worm.

Motley disses Metallica
Mister Sixx and pals give their response to Lars' crew, on the whole mp3/napster issue. Sounds like 2 groups of people are benefitting from all these lawsuits, lawyers and flash-cartoonists...

Anyone else joined up for this?
With all the grief that
ICANN &
NSI seem to be causing these days, I'm curious how many other people out there have joined the ICANN Member-At-Large program, and if anyone has posted any comments yet. To me, requiring someone to get 10% of the Asian region, to be self-nominated, seems most improbable.

Broadcast "quality" animation in 3 days?
Something disturbing about tonite's southpark that just occured to me. it was basically about the ellian controversy, and the raid on easter sunday, they even had janet reno dressed up as the easter bunny for the attack, and they used "the closet photo" to kill kenny. now I know southpark animation isn't that difficult, but that seems awfully fast for them to put together an episode, espeically given that they've been advertising the episode all month...I'll be dreaming of conspiracy theories to explain this one tonite
