Hooray for highlights!

When did you start putting that little highlight bar on AskMe comments that are from the original asker? Kickass! Thank you...

Buggy thing.

Bug: "Favorited by others" pages may have an issue sometimes when you try to go to the next page of favorited comments. I'm not sure what causes it, but for example: mine no worky, but mathowie's does.

What exactly are the standards for scammy crap on askme?

Couple of buggies and questions:

Projects visited link color is unreadable for me. Oddly, it's a different unreadable color at work (that picture) vs at home (purple). Something goofy on my end?

A couple of music questions inside, too....

I am having trouble finding a post to a cool web tool (java, maybe?) where you chose a parameter or some colors, then dragged your mouse around to make spline-y funky patterns. It seems it would have been especially useful to make cool mathy looking web backgrounds. I haven't the foggiest idea what search terms to even start with, and those I've tried have come up empty. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Feature idea: I'm not sure if it's meant to be private-ish or not.. if it is, you can scratch this idea. I was thinking it would be cool to be able to see "this post / comment has been flagged as:" with a list. The usernames of the flaggers could be anonymous, but it'd be nice to see what the hive mind flags things with.

When is it OK to point out something that may be very important even if it does not directly address an AskMe? This post is from a person who acknowledges "borrowing" a neighbor's open WiFi connection. I would like to know if MeTa thinks I was out of line in posting this and this. The resulting response bothers me. I tried to be both helpful and understanding that she may be unaware of potential legal issues with "borrowing" wifi, and gave protective advice to her about being safe when she gets her own WiFi, too. Am I guilty of a derail, or is this kind of discourse acceptable on AskMe?

I just wanted to say thank you to AskMeFi / MeFi in general. I've asked several questions and usually gotten great help. Specifically, I asked this one a while ago about neighborhoods in Chicago, and I have an update [more inside].

Beyond simply not being funny, This comment contributes nothing to the thread, and isn't really within the "if you're not replying to talk about the topic, don't reply" spirit of AskMe.

In this AskMe, I am in agreement with the post that follows mine, as well as of course my own, though I didn't word it as bluntly as Rhomboid did, as I was sort of "typing as thinking". That said, the first response seems vaguely spammy. Full disclosure: I provide web hosting myself, and I still think the response is borderline inappropriate.

We just got this request a bit ago, but I'm afraid I must make a similar one. Can someone post an AskMe for me? I've got a time sensitive question and AskMe tends to be the best place to get good help [more inside]

Chameleon-Pony Request: Can I change my username...

Chameleon-Pony Request: Can I change my username on MeFi, or would it forever ruin the MeFi/google/other balance and you'd prefer I don't?

I really don't use this username like... anywhere anymore... I've been around MeFi for a few years now I think, and even back when I registered I was considering ditching this dumb nickname.

Aside from recent weeks where I've been AskMeFi crazy, I've been lurk-ish enough that I highly doubt anyone has any real association with my name (I'm not like ParisParamus, for example) so I don't think it would throw anyone off, really.

FeatureRequest: MeFi bookmarks. I would love, on AskMeFi and MeFi, to be able to click "bookmark this link", and then be able to go to a page that lists those links I have bookmarked. Ideally sortable by post date and last comment date, searchable by keyword, but the sort/search isn't totally necessary.

"Why not bookmark it in IE/Mozilla?" Well, call me picky but I really prefer to reserve browser bookmarks for main pages of sites I visit ALL the time (i.e. MeFi/AskMeFi). It'd be nice to have a local archive of the stuff I'm tracking and want to keep coming back to.

Ever since MeFi's search feature went away and it...

Ever since MeFi's search feature went away and it now lets you search google or yahoo, I'm having trouble finding past posts I'm looking for. Right now I'm looking for a post from within the last month or so where you could enter a URL into this website and it would give you a bunch of feedback on how good/bad it was, etc..

Will the search feature be coming back any time? Google/yahoo don't seem to order by date, and seem to mix in all sorts of stuff that clouds up my search. I loved being able to restrict my search to "within the last month", etc...

AskMeFi email notification? I understand for...

AskMeFi email notification?

I understand for threads that get a lot of replies - an email per response is way too much, and would be more of a hassle than it's worth.

What about a nightly cron job that notifies AskMeFi posters who have checked an "email me to let me know about new replies" box a notice that X number of replies have been posted to their thread? The box could be unchecked by default, of course.

I've found that sometimes, AskMeFi threads that are days old end up getting responses from bored folks who scroll through several pages, so I think this would be useful.

Hey, just curious if the reason this site tends to have downtime with relative frequency (it's not terrible or anything, but it's certainly more than any other popular site I check out) is a result of the ISP it's hosted at, or the server it's running on...

I'm not asking to be a jerk or anything, I'm just curious, since I have a 1u server colocated somewhere myself, and am moving it to a new facility soon etc.. so network / hosting / downtime issues pique my interest...

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this.....

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this.. it's late at night and I've poked around a little bit looking for a place to email questions like this and didn't find one, but I didn't want to FPP to MeFi without asking this first...

The company I work for (but not me personally) has developed a web scripting language that in some ways is comparable to ColdFusion, which MeFi is run on...

Is it kosher for me to post a link to it on MeFi? The product is free and the only end goal I want to see is that interested parties go try it out and give feedback on it... The "business model" so to speak is to eventually sell customer support to corporate types, but there are online forums and the like for free support to regular joes just tinkering with the language and helping each other out...

Anyhow... if it's not cool to post it, no big deal... if it is, cool... If anyone wants to check it out, let me know... I'll respond with a link...
