spiderwire: per capita, the larger cruise ships are indeed more fuel efficient. I can't offer a physics explanation, but from practical observation of the financials, they are.

ROU_Xenophobe: the ship definitely maxes out the outside balconies, too. The inside ones are at least an improvement over the alternative -- looking at a wall. =)

MeFi post: Phony airline ads and website almost too close to reality
Rather than a direct weight charge I suspect airlines will take more indirect measures to further discourage larger people from flying.

Here's why: Apart from the publicity / legal costs of an NAAFA uproar, there's just too much hassle involved in weighing each person and charging them accordingly. Can you imagine the lines?

Sorry, I should've been more specific -- definitely worth being super-exact for things that are already weighed anyway (cargo) or under the airline's control (carts, flight manuals). Not worth being super-exact when you have to build in a whole new process ... that will also anger a lot of people ... when you can get a lot of the same result from simpler, Southwest-like policies.

Good grief ... this dead horse again? In my humble opinion, Sim's work is far more significant than his feelings about women, however one may interpret them.

As for the term "misogynist", it's too inflammatory, over-used, and unspecific to be helpful in a meaningful conversation. It's a little too close to pointing at someone and shouting "Communist!!"
