The Ballad of Daisy and Jay
I'd heard this on your website while investigating your other stuff, so I'm glad it's migrated its way over here. Thanks so much, love your work.

Jonathan's Things
Lyrics are the first thing I hook into, hearing a song, and yours have me paying attention. Hope you post more.

Whisky For My Toothache
Yeah, I was gonna say how nice the vocals sound here too. FWIW, I'm listening on relatively new headphones, which I'm still "exploring," and on this song the vocals sound really deep inside my skull, especially the second verse onward. Great feeling.

The Bitter with the Suite
Wish I'd caught this further upthread, when the discussion was more general, since I don't have particular suggestions on posting limits, etc.. But that said, whee! I'm glad to have a place to pledge my love for MeFiMu.
It's appropriate that I came upon this new section today. As we speak, I'm making final playlist decisions on a 2-CD compilation I'm making of tunes I've found here that I love the most. The theme of the compilation is "a musical autobiography in... [more]

I'll Never Forget You
I'm late to the game on this one, but I've just discovered this song, and I can't get it out of my head. Thanks for posting it.

Ah, so THAT explains the refrain of "Goin' Back to Harlan" on Emmylou Harris' Wrecking Ball album. I love finding those nuggets of songs that date back a hundred years (or even hundreds of years) but continue to show up in songwriting today...

Marie
This, um, goes on the short list of songs to play at my funeral, if I have one. Or at least, that's my first thought on hearing it. Don't hold me to it, though. Plus the "Marie" thing's an issue, unless I meet a mighty significant one between now and then...
You should track down Susan Crowe's song If I'm Spared. It was based on a series of her grandfather's letters from the twenties, addressed to friends and contemplating mortality and the coming winter... This one hits me... [more]

a perfect preservative
Love the first three quarters of a second. The rest too, but it kicks off so oddly, but perfectly.
Love the change from "sweetness be forgot" as written to "this day be forgot" as sung--it's better. Course, maybe it's good the other way too. Shoot, now I can't decide.
awww... and I love the ending. In our chests, indeed. My favourite song of the day.
This song reminds me so much of some other act I love, and I can't put my finger on who...

Secular Humanist Love Song
I notice you wrote "but I don't really care for wine" but sang "but I don't like wine." I prefer the way you sang it. The joke's funnier with such short one syllable words coming a great long word like "transubstantiate."
And I love your vocal rising on the paris and rome bit.
(side note: whistling! whistling! every song with whistling should have a whistling tag...)

Loved this. I'm off to listen to your other stuff now. Yes, I'd love it kept spare. It doesn't need much more.
