Ask post: Question about erection angles
Could it be Peyronie's Disease?
"The disease may cause pain, hardened, cord-like lesions (scar tissue known as "plaques"), or abnormal curvature of the penis when erect. In addition, narrowing and or shortening of the penis may occur. Pain felt in the early stages of the disease often resolves in twelve to eighteen months. Erectile dysfunction, in varying degrees, often accompanies these symptoms in the later stages of the disease process. The condition may also make... [more]

Ask post: Did this relationship have to end?
Yeah, sorry man. Don't try and convince her, that will surely backfire anyway. Sounds like it's over. Good luck.

Ask post: Recommend me some good post-apocalyptic movies and books
I can't believe I missed this thread until now!
Seconding the following:
A Canticle for Leibowitz (so so good)
The Road (has some really great moments, if you're a parent it'll really get to you, a bit pretentious)
The Stand (fun and silly)
Earth Abides (the first of this "genre" I ever read, so it remains one of my faves)
World War Z (good book, but not quite apocalyptic IMHO)
I've read a bunch of... [more]

Ask post: how do you feel about an innocent admirer
Be flattered. It's nice to have a little ego boost every once in a while.

Ask post: Help whip my post-obesity body into shape
Lots of terrific advice. Personal trainers are expensive, but how about exploring buddy sessions, one or two friends sharing the cost. Lots of trainers will do this.

Congratulations on sticking with your program and losing so much fat.
Don't lose hope--you are so close to your goal, and the answer is simple:
Weight training.

If you can only afford a few sessions with a trainer, make sure you find someone who can teach you... [more]

Thanks folks, this was very helpful!

Ask post: Please help us avoid mold in the attic.
Personally, I'd worry any time I cut a hole in my roof. Perhaps I'm over-reacting, but I'd call the roofer.

Ask post: flashfilter: Good Flash Website Templates
By template I mean a rough starting point to build upon. A shell that I can add my own "look and feel" to. Why is using "Flash functionality..." a "bad bad" idea, nike.com and adidas.com both use Flash extensively.
posted to Ask Metafilter by Echidna882003 at 2:50 PM on May 5, 2008
Geeze, well okay then.

Nike.com and Adidas.com were not built from "free/cheap pre-built flash website templates".
- I didn't mean to imply that nike or adidas didn't spend $$ on their sites, I was merely using them as an example of sites that use flash to display content.

The adidas.com site isn't as bad, but still a bit problematic if you're using anything but a standard desktop or laptop... [more]

Ask post: This is my chopper.
Other than the safety class, parking lot riding is a good place to start. I also recommend the book "Proficient Motorcycling" by David L. Hough.

Good luck, and be safe.

Ask post: Supplements? I need energy, want to feel good!
Eat sensibly (fruits and vegetables, lean meat) and exercise.
All the rest (supplements, "diets", vitamins, getting all nit-picky) is just gravy (pun intended) if you're just starting out. Don't stress about the details, just eat good stuff and exercise a lot. It's not magic.

Ask post: Why am I getting these heart rushes
How's your pulse when this happens? It sounds like something that happens to me when my "heart skips a beat." I feel quite funny, then my heart seems to beat in my throat in an uneven manner. Seems to disappear when I cut back on the caffeine. Google "arrhythmia symptoms".

Ask post: Help me choose a sport
I do Brazilian Jiu Jistu, have done a bunch of kick boxing and judo. They are all great for staying/getting in shape, and they all have certain aspects that would help as self-defense. Jiu-Jitsu is basically 100% wrestling with submissions (chokes and joint locks), Kick boxing is kicking and punching. I know nothing about Aiki Jitsu. I know you said that you didn't have the time, but I really suggest that you try one or two classes of each and see what you like. I never thought I'd like... [more]

Ask post: Working out during lunchtime
I've found that an apple or banana about 30 min before my workout keeps my energy up nicely. After workout, it's all about the protein. Low fat, high protein, lots of sleep and exercise, you can't go wrong!
