MeTa post: MetaFilter Slooooow?
I have occasionally had the MeFi server stop responding, usually to come back in a couple of minutes. It's been happening recently -- but that's because it's always been like that. I haven't noticed any change.

MeTa post: MetaFilter DNS records goofy?
I want monohootenators, myself. Polyhootenators lead to increases in cholesterol levels.

MeTa post: Backstabbing is not conducive to intellectual discourse
Taking a cheap shot at someone who isn't even participating in the thread does seem pretty low.

MeTa post: Happy Mefi-day to me!
There are about 70,000 members of this board. If everyone posts on their anniversary, that will be about 190 posts in MeTa every day.

A looks better, but B will scale better, so I vote for B.

MeTa post: Don't ask me!!
In the area of expertise of a DJ, no one asks questions about life-changing issues. Getting the wrong answer is unlikely to result in catastrophe.

When it comes to law or medicine, getting the wrong advice can lead to economic ruin, prison time, death, or permanent handicap.

What does "swoondle" mean?
posted to MetaTalk by Class Goat at 11:20 AM on June 4, 2008
If "swoondle" is a portmanteau of "swoon" and "fondle", I think I don't want to know.

Mister_A, I remain unenlightened. All that web site does is flash some circles at me in pastel colors.

Or are those swoondles?

MeTa post: Neverending Stories
There was a time when old threads were not closed, and what happened is that some users laid claim to very old threads and turned them into private chat sessions, or into personal blogs.

For instance, the legendary #1142.

MeTa post: deleted militarization thread
It was an invitation to a three-minute hate. I think it would have been a sucky post even without the editorializing.

Outrage filter rarely makes for good posts.

MeTa post: The foods on my plate canNOT touch one another.
The usual answer to this from the mods is, "we don't want to turn Metafilter into Digg. The 'favorites' mechanism isn't a way of voting."

MeTa post: What gives?
Semmi, a little bit of salt in food makes it taste good. Half a pound of salt added to a meal will kill you.

Your complaint is, this other post was just the same as mine, but only mine got deleted. Why? The answer is that a little bit of political posting adds flavor to the site, but too many such postings will ruin the community.

It nearly happened during the 2004 election campaign. I think the mods are trying to prevent a... [more]

MeTa post: This is ridiculous.
What specific problem were you trying to solve, and how would you recognize the solution if you saw it? If you can't tell me that, your question doesn't belong on "AskMe".

Specificity isn't the issue. I agree with the deletion and agree with the reason for the deletion.

MeTa post: A house at the intersection of technology and politics.
I think you shouldn't, because I don't think it would make a good Metafilter post.

MeTa post: AskMe homework help
FourCheeseMac, I don't think the issue is whether this is a problem for the college. The issue is whether this is a problem for us. Irrespective of whether it might be considered OK for there to be "help me with my homework" websites, the question before us is whether we want AskMe to become such a website.

I vote "no".

(Whether I'm entitled to a vote is another question, of course.)

MeTa post: Double bad.
This has really been the day for deleted posts, hasn't it? At least nine so far.

And given that deleted posts are always linked from elsewhere, I like the idea of changing the link. Otherwise the self-linkers would still be rewarded for their SEO activities.
