Montreal rendezvous?
I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it on the 29th, but I'm definitely going to try!

Damn - I don't think I'm going to be able to make it. I'm still going to try, but we have some last-minute unanticipated houseguests that have arrived in town...

MeFi Fantasy Baseball 2007
Thanks to mkultra for doing a wrapup and setting the league up in the first place. I was running away with the whole thing, well over 100 pts for weeks...
...until the all star break, when a steady decline of my squad set in, mixed with improved results for several others including the eventual champion.

This is a BS callout to MetaTalk. There is nothing in the post or in the poster's history to indicate that he's anything but an upstanding citizen. And as another poster indicated, there are good reasons for wanting to find someone even someone who doesn't necessarily want to be found. That desire to not be found might very well be a manifestation of the person's problem and the reason to want to find them.

Apparently it's even MORE absurd to hope that mefites should be able to avoid moralizing instead of simply declining to answer the freaking question.

Can you post more details, in particular which site and format you're using? I am a longtime fantasy player who could take over and commit to sticking with the team.

Sorry - I see in an earlier post that it's at Yahoo and it's a roto league. I'll take over a team if there's one available. I'd prefer #2 then #1 then #3.

I suppose someone will email the people selected? I'm in if there's space - I already keep track of things pretty closely for the points league I'm in and another roto league I'm in as well.

mcwetboy, I'm surprised that that many people here joined before 9/11.
There's also some vagueness with the word "victim". My wife was a victim of 9/11 who lived and was physically unhurt but I can't say that we have been unaffected by it.

The irony of his response to my post - and I am honest enough to admit that mine was pretty direct, perhaps too much so - is that I am NOT very good at office small talk. I'm polite and if I do ask about my (former) boss' kids it's cause I am genuinely curious, but most of the time I don't remember to ask in the first place.
I can recognize when someone posts a question in such a way that they attempt to demonstrate their superiority at the same time as asking how to... [more]

For my part I want to note that I tried to give a reasonable answer in my response but also to address the fact that the question itself was a set-up.
His question is genuine, but the way he chose to post it was really no different than asking someone if they've stopped beating their dog yet. There's no good answer to it, and asking the question in that manner is usually a deliberately aggressive way of preventatively defending your self-esteem.

There's another level of copyright here that Matt has never really addressed, as far as I know. In anthologies, better known as works made up of other copyrighted works, there is a separate ownership of the collection. This refers to all the posts in a row. Matt presumably owns that, whether or not he has explicitly claimed it or not.
Why this is important? Let's say I edit a book with articles by X, Y, and Z. They each agree to being included in the book, but retain... [more]

I think you're thinking about different things, raaka - you and sylloge.
I think he's referring to immigrants from other countries. I think you're thinking of recent migrants from other parts of town (i.e., gentrification).
I agree with sylloge that having a good mix of people is important. It helps if they are new to the area but are trying to put down some roots as well - a sort of middle ground.
As a general principle... [more]

I loved the SubHonker Filter (the popup version, now Blogtracker). I'd just keep it open all day and refresh it from time to time, then when I had five minutes I'd pop over to a site I like.
To set it up can be time consuming, but it's not bad. The key is to just set all new to "Hidden" and then go and pick the individual sites you want to unhide.
I hope it's useful again once Blogger and others integrate the new system for flagging updates.

I think the articles themselves are all that need to be included in MetaFocus or whatever it ends up being named. If readers want to comment or start a thread, there is already a good space for that - back on MeFi itself. I think that's one of the more interesting things about the idea - that the MeFi community starts to seed itself. To structure that commentary too much, or to abstract it from the core community space, seems to be less than ideal, since a certain amount of focus could be lost... [more]
