Is there a porn blocker that I can set up to block sites from myself
If you use FireFox, you can set up LeechBlock - it's supposed to be used to block yourself from using time-wasting sites like FaceBook or from checking your email too often, but it can block basically any site you want - even, say, Google searches for porn, and you can set up hoops (e.g. having to enter a randomly generated string of 64 characters to change the add-on's settings to slow yourself down when you feel temptation gnawing at your mouse finger.

he could bear to wait no longer
Exacerbated by the fact that The Guardian thought it appropriate to post this in their 'Life & Health' section.
Probably because being at the wheel at the time fucked him up mentally for a while.
And there isn't really a more appropriate section, is there? I don't think Sport or Entertainment or Culture would be any better.

Whither thou, BookGem?
I have the small version of the Book Chair farishta mentioned. It's not very good, and one of the little legs which hold the book open came out the other day - easily replaceable, but annoying.
If you do intend to get one of these, I'd suggest getting at least the medium-sized one; the small one can't reliably handle anything bigger than a paperback without threatening to tip over at the slightest provocation.
I've been hoping for a... [more]

Looks like this is about soccer instead of football.
Them Americans are coming out of the woodwork again... wondered how long it'd take.
Nah, it's about football.

Single Link Jew Tube?
Incidentally, there is actually a JewTube.com. The tagline: "Here's looking at Jew!"
No Palestine-tube though. Maybe it's because "Palestine" doesn't rhyme with "You".

When both suppliers for both sides decide to settle this thing in a reasonable manner, then perhaps both war parties will be forced to make peace.
Hah! The way this thing's been going, if they can't find guns, missiles and rockets to shoot each other with, they'll just revert to sticks and bows & arrows and little rocks.
I'm in my twenties and I fully don't expect this conflict to ever end in my lifetime. Unless maybe one... [more]

Cuisine is the most subjective thing on the planet
I'd nominate religion for that particular award. At least with cuisine, you can eat it/ touch it/ poke it with a stick.
Like in this case, the effect of the kid's extreme diet is clear: malnourishment. Give a kid a kooky religion, however, and the effects aren't always so obvious.

If goths were going to play in a giant ball pit, what color would they prefer those balls to be?
True - but (1) swimming and goths don't mix, and (2) that's a pretty big If.
Also, seconding the disappointment that it's really a reservoir and not an actual ball pit.

Think you can do better than Congress? Prove it.
Playing this is less interesting than having one's teeth cleaned.
Indeed, the dentist often makes pithy remarks about the relevance of dental hygiene to the modern man and his ability to score.
It's an interesting concept but the execution isn't wholly satisfying.

By "interesting concept", I mean the game, not the process of teeth cleaning and aphorism-dispensing dentists.

Postcrossing
Not to be a wet blanket, but I wonder what the carbon footprint is to mail an international postcard.
Wet blankets are good things... they put out the fires fuelled by zealous postcard exchanging. And we all know FIRES CONTRIBUTE TO GLOBAL WARMING.
Unless they aren't wet enough, then they become part of the problem. It also depends on the size of the postcard-exchanging fuelled fires.

So now it's "officially" extinct, but if someone sees one, Poof! It's not extinct anymore.
Reminds me of God! The required time period for not seeing God before declaring Him extinct seems to be longer than 5 years though.
Some claim to see His footprints on assorted beaches.

Do you eat seafood? If so, you might have noticed that the animals we eat today were considered bait twenty years ago. We are eating our way down the food-chain and the chowder isn't getting better when we substitute tofu and bacon bits for real fish.

"I like to see black words on white paper rolling up in front of my gaze."
The only way to hack into an old-school typewriter is to use a hacking tool. Like an axe or a machete. You can't use a sledgehammer though it'd probably be quicker because hacking involves cutting, and hammers don't cut, they bash. And you can't use a fine cutting tool either, it has to be heavy and crude. Like an axe. Because hacking implies heaviness and crudeness. That's probably why it's secure - it's hard to hack into something with an axe and not have someone notice.

As an aside, appropriate use of "batshitinsane" includes Bill O'Reilly, Birthday Celebrations for Hitler and Penis Theft Disease. A "I hope your head falls off" letter to the Destroyer of Ponds? Not so much.... [more]
