How do I meditate regularly?
Don't make such a big deal of it. Just sit. Groggy, can't focus, etc. Exactly! If you are groggy, sit groggy. If you can't focus, just sit and be unfocused. Meditation is merely watching the mind do what it does. Just sit and watch the grogginess. Just sit and watch the lack of focus.

How best to become an NLP practitioner
I hold practitioner and master practitioner certifications in NLP. I would strongly recommend an in-person training program. So much of the material is about practicing techniques in the presence of a trainer who can give you immediate feedback, I would be very worried about attempting to learn the techniques only through online learning.
That being said, there are lots of great books about NLP which can be very useful in understanding the concepts (as opposed to... [more]

Breast milk is one of the four bodily fluids that have enough live virus (in an HIV+ individual) to transmit the HIV virus to a partner. The other three are blood, seminal fluid, and vaginal secretions. You should treat breast milk in the same way you would one of these three bodily fluids fluids.

So what do academics interviews consist of?
Often there are 2 presentations in an academic interview. One is as you describe a 'typical' lecture, but usually actual students are shipped in to be your audience or 'class'. The point of this presentation is to see how you do at teaching. The other presentation, though, is a research presentation, where you present original research to the committee. The purpose of the research presentation is to evaluate your rigor as a scholar. If the committee is expecting a research presentation and... [more]

great guy, bad sex, what should i do?
When the sex is good, it is 10% of the relationship. When the sex is bad, it is 90% of the relationship.
It is time to let this really nice guy go, and find a really nice guy who gives you earth-shaking orgasms.

Getting the Group out of Group Project
Having taught college for 15 years or so, assigning group projects in about 1/3 of my classes, I can not imagine a scenario where I would approved the substitution of an individual project for a group project. None of the strategies suggested by others would work with me.

I don't want to be guilted into explaining why I don't give blood!
There is a larger issue not being discussed in this thread, and perhaps way off topic, but this workplace pressure to give blood is extremely problematic gay men. Any male who has had sex with a man even once since 1978 is ineligible to give blood. (Regardless of HIV status.) As an openly gay man, I engage in this discussion each time I am asked to give blood anywhere, but I can imagine that, for men trying to keep their sexuality to themselves, the constant questioning about why they are not... I am an atheist. I get everything or nearly everything that I set an intention on (which might be the same as your asking.) My theory is that this intention sets in motion actions on my part that are more likely to lead to my intention. People ignore the vast majority of opportunities that are presented to them - usually by just not paying attention. By setting an intention, our mind searches for those opportunities that past experience and reason suggest would lead to accomplishing our... [more]

How to tell if therapist is doing a good job?
Two sessions is a very short period of time to judge. However, it is important to remember that a therapist is your employee - like a doctor or a dentist. If you are not getting what you want, find another employee. (Did you interview multiple therapists before choosing this one?)
The best judge of the therapeutic process is how you are feeling, acting, and reacting in your life outside of therapy. The initial reactions might not be positive. (For example, you begin... [more]

Do I intervene with the bullies?
44 year old gay guy here. I came out at 18, but was very much in the theater/drama crowd as a high schooler. Essentially, I think every gay person in a conservative environment has two choices - 1) be big, loud and out there, clearing a path for those that come after you or 2) hide as much as you can until you get to a safer, more gay friendly environment. It looks like (if he is gay) your son has chosen #1. My advice would be to support him in all his outrageousness. Help him make his... [more]

If the crime was in the past and there is nothing about the covering up or lying about the crime that will present a danger to others in the future, you should have no problems with the conversations with your therapist remaining confidential.

Start with a cold shower. As cold as you can stand it. This will give you an initial wake up and make you look wide awake and aware as you enter your workplace. Begin caffeine of choice as soon as possible. Alternate with ice cold water to drink. When all the caffeine and ice water drives you to bathroom, splash yourself with cold water. If possible, go home at lunch time and take another cold shower. For me, a nap would be the worst thing (I would not wake up again.)

Degreeinfo.com is a great place to start. The key is 1) make sure the school is regionally accredited, 2) make sure the online program is the same curriculum and faculty as the classroom program, and 3) make sure you have the self-discipline and motivation on-line learning requires.

Is Your Excellency aware of the 2 for 1 special on pineapples today?
From my perspectives as a confirmed atheist, all of these titles are just made up names by a social club. I wouldn't call the Leopard Lodge leader, Grand High Poo-bah Jones. So why would I call someone Bishop Smith. If some cult leader has titled himself as "Lord high ruler of the 3rd spiritual plane", would you address him this way?
I think Mr. or Ms. works fine in formal settings and first names in informal settings.

Sure a fat kid loves cake, but should he get it?
If you are not currently sexual active with a partner, I would suggest masterbation as an incentive. Orgasms are extremely pleasureable and powerful reinforcers. Restrict masterbation to days (weeks) when you have followed your diet/exercise routine exactly. (As opposed to actual weight loss which is usually outside your complete control.)
If you have a partner, discuss with them the possibility of using sex as a reward.

Coming out of your shell
I definitely agree with grumblebee - thrill seekers and nesters don't make good friends. Go out and find new friends who are looking for adventure. Go ski-diving and make friends with the people in your class. Go to eccentric art openings, new music concerts, etc. I am love the new experience, but, recognizing that not everyone does, I seek out friends who have that desire as well. It is highly unlikely that you will convince your current nesting friends to become thrill seekers.

How to turn bad sex good, or at least better?
If you like this guy on other levels (and it sounds like you do), I would recommend at least four more sexual encounters before you count him out. There have been lots of good advice about asking for what you want, etc., but I would just give it another try and see what happens. If you start to get a repeat of the first encounter, then apply the advice given in vivo. The first sex after a long period of non-sexual dating is almost always disastrous. Lighten up and try again.

How hard to become adjunct teacher of philosophy?
While I agree with all of the answers about how unlikely is the possiblity of teaching a subject for which you have no academic training, I will give an example of how I was able to do exactly that. I was a regular, ongoing adjunct in my discipline at a university that had a "first year experience" seminar program. The goal of the seminar was for students and faculty to explore a topic together that was outside of the faculty member's discipline. I taught in the program for about 7... [more]

GayDramaFilter. How can I make sure that people don't confuse my basic interest in them with flirting?
I disagree with most of the advice that recommends changing the way you interact. If you are really getting people to feel like "they are the most important person in the world," you are doing a great job at intimate conversation. But, there is a miscommunication happening, so I would suggest adding something, as opposed to changing something. Perhaps toward the end of these types of conversations you could add something like, "I love having these kinds of deep conversations.... [more]
