USA Only
Hey, we saved all your ungrateful asses in World War II. If you can't deal with web addresses starting with "world war winners", don't call on us to save you next time around.
You're Russian?

Everybody needs a mux.
Doh. For the longest time I couldn't see what the big deal was with a site that just lists songs on a mixtape. That's because I use NoScript and Flashblock and the result was that the blocked flash icons are down at the very bottom of the page where I never saw them.

FPPs posts that are conclusive should be based on evidence.
This just feels like another topic Mefi does poorly; the community does not shred them "bit by bit" because the ratio specialized knowledge to Chicken Little-ism is low.
Really? I find it pretty easy to see who the specialists are in these threads. I think this is the kind of thing metafilter does brilliantly because you get to see all the different types of arguments at once . There is something about seeing hyperbole and calm reason... [more]

Trainwreck Thread
Where is the train wreck? I love train wrecks. I survived the Great Mississauga Train Wreck. I want to survive more. Please tell me where it is so I can go survive it. Please. I am desperate for more disaster to overcome. I need more t-shirt experiences.

Bottom posting links
For the record I only learned of the removal feature here. I generally avoid the grey and didn't see the wee little links.
I'm clearly completely out of step and accept the rebukes.

I am pretty sure all of ask is now wrong most of the time. Much like meta is becoming farked. I'd ask where the smart kids are going now but I would just find out I am not invited.

Metafilter Mix CD Swap: Best of 2007 Edition Tracklists
There isn't a whole lot that is great about living in Brum but getting to see bands like Great Lake Swimmers in teeny tiny venues like the small room at the Glee Club or Stars at Barfly with just about a hundred other people is one of them. Great Canadian indie acts with almost no UK following routinely come by and give really intimate shows.

Deletion Stats?
I'd love it if somebody created a deleted metafilter thread site where people could comment on deleted threads with some sort of authentication of the mefi accounts.

sockpuppetry?
I've imposed this one question a week limit on all my friends. Every now and then if somebody I don't know very well asks me a question right after someone I know well asks one, I start wondering if they are a sockpuppet. In the absence of IP addresses I check if person I know well still has both socks. So far I have caught no sockpuppets.

True to form
This post was deleted for the following reason: please keep editorializing out of FPPs, particularly newsfilterish FPPs. -- jessamyn
weak. count me very as unimpressed that you caved. newsfilter would have sufficed but to call the truth editorializing is offensive.

To answer the original quesiton "Why is the term "USian" used on MeFi in place of "American" so often?"
Because there are too many posts about the tenuously united states of america?

It's the UK's second city and has a proud industrial heritage. It's currently undergoing a bit of a renaissance with some amazing buildings going up. Still, it's biggest asset is it's people. Warm, generous, humourous, self-deprecating and utterly unintelligible to anyone from outside the city.
That's what the brochures say anyway.

Please help me name my mix CD about kittens.
That last guideline is pure shit. People have here those questions and other people here can answer them. I hate the agony aunt relationship questions but I don't think people shouldn't be able to ask them. The same should apply to mixtape or naming questions. If you don't like em then skip em. How hard is that?

If AskMe is about what we enjoy then why not allow chatfilter too?
yeah. While it's true that you can always skip past what you don't like, I have to say that the more stuff you have to skip past, the more you generally find yourself inclined not to bother with a site to start with. Which is fine, too, but it does mean that the more permissive AskMe is about chatfilterish stuff, the more it will attract people who want chatfilter and disinterest those who don't,... [more]

Journey, sir, Journey. Not Loverboy. There is a huge difference. For one thing, nobody in Journey would wear pants this ridiculous
Not to mention have a picture of fingers in proximity to an ass and then have a label saying "digitally mastered"
