A bit late, it's the 2006 MetaFilter Election...
So, given the number of Absentee ballots (almost 25%, according to a story Drudge linked last week) and provisionals, we won't be *awarding* this untli there are certified results, sometime next week, right? :-)

And yeah, I'm another of those perverts would turn the ads on. Even Google ads; I really enjoy the trainwrecks they come up with sometimes. (Ever read fanfiction.net? ;-)

Moderation goes in both directions.
But clearly, everyone was just looking for a target tonight, so, as I said, nevermind.

nano: I love strong women, and I'm on Methyl's side on this one, actually. And I'm not calling her out; I've liked her stuff this month.
It was just a cigar, really.

So why all of the "why do you think that this man doesn't know well enough to know what his own wife would want" defensiveness?
Because he's a *guy*, and we often don't?
And the callouts were mostly from women, that I could see.
I posted it in response to the lame callout.
Did you mean "in the Ask"? Or here? Cause I *really* wasn't trying to call out either Methyl or scarabic

Why not explain why it's bad advice?
In general, I agree with this.
But, aside from "would we really expect a parent to *tell* a child that", do we really have to go that deep on this one?

It's not copyright, it's trademark.
But it wouldn't matter if they *did* still have a trademark on it (and I can't imagine why they wouldn't; it's been in commercial use) -- they're in the carbonate beverage area of trade; you're not.
You only get generic protection if you're, say, Kodak. Or Xerox.
Glad to hear things are going well up there, BTW.

Suggestion, Matt: You should probably think about moving that out to (or double DNSing it to) an off-domain URL as well, so it's still accessible when DNS dies.
And yes, kudos; I waste way too much time here again, lately. Great place to hang out.

Well, jonmc, that's sort of the *point*.
It occurs to me, though, that a good reason *to* make this a sitefeature is that you could then only ping said user once or twice, instead of every time.
Course, the wall people need to climb over to send email now is apparently high enough to keep it from being annoying.
MetaFilter: We'll shoot down your "good feature" suggestions.

Zerokey: note that some to many customer-resolver servers operated by ISP's *override* short TTLs these days, so even if you're good at what you do, it doesn't always help anymore.

Hee.
Hey; I have no problem with photographers making a living; anyone who can manage to make a living off creative work without a patron my hat is off to.
Conversely, some of them aren't up front about precisely how they're structuring their pricing, and that's one of the reasons why clients get pissed.
Moving companies tend to get clients over a barrel and then jack up the prices as well. It's unethical no matter who's... [more]
