Leon says: (There's a serious discussion to be had about how moderation systems tend towards broken as community size increases, but this isn't the place.)

This is the place, if my watching MeTa for the last month is any indication. We have a little bit o' this, in the flagging facility -- and even that is misunderstood by many. And yet people suggest more.

Discuss?

So, at what point does answering the question you feel someone *should* have asked cross the line?

I note a new option on the pulldown: "My Comments". I just thought I should point out, though, that it didn't appear until after I'd selected some other option first: that is, the menu only had three options on it the first time.

Nifty, though.

Other-bloggers: I've noticed something, and I'm wondering if it's just me (so many things are just me), or if you'venoticed it, too.

Since I've become an active participant on MetaFilter, it seems to me like I post less stuff on my own 'log. Has this happened to you, too; and if it has, what are your speculations on the *specific* reasons why?

Just today, MF, but not MT, *does* think I'm logged in, but does *not* fill in the password field on my posting pages automatically. W98/NS4.7x and it's been working ok up til now. Not having the password there, incidentally, preview's you through to a preview page *without* your posting at the bottom; no apparent error message.

Um, I never remember having heard any thoughts on either of the following two (three) ideas: so I'll repost them en banc:

IWBNI: you could limit the front page in three ways:
1) Threads that I have not read yet
2) Threads that I have read, but not posted on, with comments newer than my last view
3) Threads I have posted on, with comments newer than my last post.

I think those three subsets exhaust the set, no?

It wopuld seem to me that that is all timestamps in cookies, but I don't speak CF...

Ok, this *does* belong in MetaTalk, and I'll bet you no one even notices it here...

Has anyone noticed lately which threads are pulling all the comments? This place seems to be half weblog, and half Slashdot lately, and while we do it much better than they do these days (no one left their sense of humor in their other pants, notably, for the most part, and no one's anonymous -- but that's a topic for a different thread) I just think it's interesting the the actual *links* don't get much comment.

It's more the stuff that's almost 'designed' to engender lots of commentary that seems to be quite successful at it. Maybe that's a tautology, but *I* thought it was interesting.

Of course, maybe it's just me.

So many things are just me.

It Would Be Nice If, from the Meta topic page, you could see the "new posts, new comments" numbers for the individual topic pages (especially if that included a flag for any place you'd been followed up).

Sometimes I'm just keeping up with my own patch, sometimes, I have *time* to be looking for new stuff.

The returned URL from a MetaTalk comment posting is not identical to the page from which you posted it, which means that "Back" takes you back to the comment page with the filled in form, rather than back to the parent page, a feature I'd always rather liked...

Ok, I've posted my first original link. And I discovered that the entry parser for new posts works almost, but not entirely, unlike the parser for followups. Blank lines don't automatically turn into

tags, I need a
in my sig that I don't need on followups, and if I *do* use a

, the nice indented formatting blows all to hell.

Um, "what the hell"? :-)
