Ask post: Penicillin, you be illin'
Thanks everyone. It seems like I will take the pills. I got what I was looking for in the bit about messing with the cultures in your digestive system. I guess I should have added the buzzword "holistic" in the question. I will take yogurt culture or even some of my fresh kimchi.

To all the haters, boo on you! I'm not a conspirator, I just want to be fully educated about what goes into my body.

Thanks again hivemind!

Ahh. I clicked before I read the [more inside] and was throughly confused. It kind of resembles an online zine, of sorts. It's cool though. :)

Ask post: Uses for Dr Bronner soap?
I swear by my gallon of Dr bronner's, much like everyone else here. Just a note about laundry detergent: Don't use it with clothes of a lighter color or clothes you particularly care about because I've had oil stains on some of my shirts. Diluting the soap helps with this but YMMV.

Also, now that things are a little relaxed, I give you: A Dr. Bronner Magic quote generator. It's real text from the old bottles, I believe...

Projects post: Short Meal...
I really love this! I feel like too much emphasis is placed on exactness and precise measurements in cooking, and these recipies are just enough spark of an idea to get my mind working.

I would donate to this if I could receive recipes via text with a keyword. I don't know how hard that is to set up but I'm surely RSSing it. I've submitted a few as well :)

Ask post: Post Blind-date.. Does she dig me?
proceed confidently but try not to have expectations.

My experience is that expectations can really bring more stress than not. However, this being said, it seems like you guys had a good time together and you really should hang out with her again, but don't go into it expecting things to go one way or another. Just be confident and feel your next encounter with her out. Haha I'd love to see the original ad :P...

Ask post: What are some novels with evil first-person narrators?
You've got to be kidding me. Nobody has mentioned the all time prince Holden Caulfield. It's surely the consensus that Holden is an Unreliable Narrator. When you read the novel, you seriously can't take the words coming from Holden's troubled psyche at face value.

There are no monsters, per se (not counting abstract terms such as phoniness and adulthood) but I can definitely give you the first-person narrator affect[ing] the entire moral framework of the... [more]

Ask post: The smell of fear
I'm partial to the theory that you either sweat more under anxiety OR the composition of sweat is different when it's not produced due to overheating, but to stress/anxiety. I don't have science to back me up, but from my holistic point of view I know this has been the case for me and it just makes plain sense.

Ask post: What is a "professional" recommendation for grad school?
It's common practice for professional, in this situation, to merely mean something non-academic. A letter of recommendation is a letter of recommendation and if you can get a great letter from a community organization, then so be it. It still is work, you know? I don't think they're going to be picky when they see it's a non profit or something. It'll probably improve your odds!

Good Luck!

Ask post: What Terry Pratchett book should I read first?
I randomly read Night Watch first and it was a good start for me. But others say Guards! Guards! is the first and best to start off with in the mini-series. But definitly go for the night watch books first.

Thats pretty expensive. I think you should totally DIY. You can work out something on a timer/dimmer switch, or even go as far as programming an adruino microcontroller to do this for you.

Ask post: tree in pot in ground
Yup, sounds about right. Avocado roots go deep. Real deep. The best thing would to either take the pot off the tree after some time. You can use some sort of biodegradable pot (but wouldn't that just be counter intuitive?? Or you can just use a very very thin/weak pot so that the roots will break it over time.

Working sucks. I'd tell you to find any way you can get out of it but I understand that isn't an option. I think the most you can do is visualise what you're going to get out of the job, and hype yourself up for it.

Ask post: Horrible hatable roommate trouble!
Yeah, as scary as it sounds, you need to have a sitdown with H and work out a compromise. Like Solomon said, you'd know best whether to have your boyfriend there or not. If he still wont budge, you don't really have authority to move in as it really is a matter of consensus.

Ask post: But there's no such thing as international law!
Immigration? You can talk about some of the failed bills (HR 4437) and why they failed (mass protests). What's going on today in immigration. You can also delve into some of your own solutions. But really, I'm just throwing things out here. This is coming from a U.S. perspective, though.

Yup. Contrary to what some think, there ARE books on every subject and what's missed can be found on the internets. Mabye you need a sort of hiatus. You know, when you cut down social time a bunch to really focus on developing yourself. Read a lot, write a lot, do all the projects and things you've always fantasized about.

Ask post: What's the best DS homebrew hardware?
Do not get an R4. If you are concerned with the longetivity of your card, I have to highly recommend against this card. The team has stopped production of the card. Be it from the impending lawsuits, the move to better hardware, or what have you. But they will not be releasing any more compatability and/or feature updates to the R4's firmware.

I have an M3 Real and i'm very happy with it. I'm using a hacked english firmware called Sakura that is currently only released... [more]

Oops, and in response to all the comments about power consumption...it'll happen. Nearly all flash carts use up more power than a regular game. It's a fact of life. I got a Nyko Charger Grip to help with this. It makes your DS clunky, but it's SO MUCH more comfortable to hold (look ma, no hand cramps!) and increases the longevity of the battery.

I can't really answer the technical aspects of your question (sorry!) but I can refer you to the gbatemp.net forums. If you don't have an account already, I'd suggest making one very quickly, and posting a topic in the NDS - Hardware, Devices and Utilities section. The community doesn't get too technical as a whole, but you will get people there who know their stuff more often than not.

I'd also recommend KORG DS-10. It's a very powerful synth.... [more]

Ask post: Venus, Voyager, Alias...phones.
I just got an LG VX 5400. I too have had LG flip phones for a while and they've never disappointed me. It's very sturdy, keys are bigger, has basically all the functions of the old LG flip phones, it has bluetooth, and you can set shortcut keys. If you want more of the same with a slight upgrade on the basic things (service, batter + speakerphone) I say look into this one.

Ask post: Where can I spread the word about my project to musicians who might be interested?
Are you talking outreach via internet only?

Because you could probably hit up lots of live indie shows and do promotion type things there. Nothing flashy, not too much merchandise or whatever, but get a table in the back and spark up conversation with whoever comes your way and even the band members.

If you are in NYC check out showpaper. But I'm sure there are outlets for wherever you are.
