I need to make the bulbs in a lamp pulse on and off.
Thanks folks. I'll dig into these suggestions and mark best answer when I figure out what worked for me.

So my dad figured out a solution (he always does). We used the receiver from a Casablanca ceiling fan and an Adapt-Touch remote. The remote has a button that dims the light, but if you keep the button held down the light pulses on and off just like on the front of a Mac laptop.
This is the remote and normal setup, which we obviously modified a bit (links to PDF): http://www.casablancafanco.com/services/omans/instructions-w52.pdf
I really appreciate all the suggestions.

How to get the baby to accept the sippy cup.
1. Maybe everyone in the family should try using a sippy cup for a little bit. He may want to join in. This has worked with my son before.
2. Yes, letting him shop for his own cup is a good idea. Also try letting him choose what cup to use when it is time for a baby beverage.
3. Put the cup out for him, where he can reach it, before he even asks for/needs something to drink. He may decide to pick it up on his own and drink without the pressure... [more]

Mood music: snowflakes and bonfires
There are mostly Christmas songs on "Christmas Caravan" By Squirrel Nut Zippers, but there are also a few non-xmas songs like "Winter Weather," Sleigh Ride" and "My Evergreen" that really get a good winter vibe going in our house.

Photo Holiday Cards
I have only used Cafe Press for holiday cards (2 yrs ago, with an illustration on the front). They worked great and I intend to use them again this year with a photo. The printed message inside was customizable and the texture was good for writing.

Ground-breaking recordings
Although it was probably recorded using traditional modern techniques, the Flaming Lips' "Zaireeka" was produced to be listened to on four CDs simultaneously.

Holy crap, it's Sunday already! Oops....
Speaking of blue, last night a friend at a party wore a blue wig, shirt, pants, had a telephone cord wrapped around her neck with a small rubber chicken hanging from it. She was Chicken Cordon Bleu. (Obviously: Chicken cord, on blue.)

Thanks, everyone!...
I have a set of pretty low-quality Benwin BW2000 flat-panel speakers connected to my iBook. Have used them for several years on several computers. I recently rearranged my home office and now they're right by the window. When I turn them on they pick up a classical music radio station that can be heard at a low volume, but not really through the actual speaker set -- just from inside the mini woofer. If I play MY music loud enough it gets covered up, but it's annoying anyway. Why does this... [more]

Maybe you could try to think of some fun, interesting and/or challenging offline projects to do, then use the www to find information about how to do those things. Even if you don't ever do the projects, at least you'll have learned something.
Also, if you do end up visiting the same ol' weblogs every day, take the advice above and click a different "recommended reads" link every time you visit -- just DON'T click any of the usual suspects.
