Ask post: Yet more desktop monitoring
What about a VNC-based solution? For example, there's VNC Snapshot, which would require scripting for an e-mail to be sent out. VNC Robot might be another solution.

Ask post: What's best for me vs. what's best for my dog: move her to NYC with me?
@TomMelee: This idea was put in my head by other people, namely my mother - she believes there's a good chance that I'll be away from home for longer stretches of time because "everything takes longer in New York." I emphasize that this is not something I felt good about doing. I do worry about my dog being lonely.

@metahawk: She tends to deal with it pretty well, but she does have some separation anxiety issues if I end up being gone for long stretches of time.... [more]

Thanks to the hive - you've sold me! I'm definitely taking her.

Ask post: Parking a PODS/you-pack moving container in Brooklyn?
Well, I'm not in New York yet, so no dice on the 311 info. Luckily time is on my side, but I'm a bit of a control freak preferable to getting as much info in advance as possible.

tickettrader: That's the plan. I'm just trying to get info when I'm ready to move into my own apartment after the sublet is up.

thinkingwoman: That's what I'm planning on doing, and that's what I'm asking: I need to know if I need/how to get a permit for parking the container. You need one in DC, which is why I assumed that you might need one in New York, too.

Ask post: It Ain't the MTA
Another option, although not necessarily more convenient, would be to take a Peter Pan bus from New York to Willimantic, and then take a WRTD Route 32 bus from Willimantic to Norwich. The advantage is that the WRTD buses run late into the night (although less often overall), and that it runs 7 days a week on the same schedule.
