Paraplegic Woman Runs From Cops

News-of-the-weird recording from 2006. One of my favorite compositions back from when I was doing The Aural Times.

O Holy Night

This is one of my favorite bits of not just holiday music but music in general, but it's not something I usually hear people rock out to. This is my attempt to help change that.

November Favorites Experience concludes. New preferences! Survey! Discuss!

November is over, and favorites are back to normal. In addition, we've got a couple related things to mention: a survey about the November exercise and favorites in general, and a couple of new display options for folks who want to alter the default favorites view.

Help with buying a new mid-range windows gaming PC?

I'm looking at purchasing a new PC for gaming, wanting to spend between $1000 and $1500 total, would prefer not to put it together myself, and am waaaay out of the loop on hardware at this point, particularly graphic cards.

Oh Balloon Boy

This is my messy pop-rock interpretation of mikepop's excellent parodic adaptation of the old murder ballad "Darling Corey", which this sounds basically nothing like.

November is National Let's Try Obscuring Favorite Counts Month

For the month of November, we're going to try an experiment with how favorites are displayed. [Note: if this whole experiment is driving you crazy, here's a note on reverting the changes.]

Cortex Sees (Select, Metafilter-centric Portions Of) America

Meetup junket! I bought one of the last Jetblue All You Can Jet passes (previously on metafilter), and I'm gonna spend the month from September 8th through October 8th flying around, and hopefully meeting up with a crapload of mefites in the process. Help me figure it all out. (NYC, Boston, Portland ME, Vermonsters, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Baltimore, DC, Raleigh, Vegas, LA, San Francisco, Salt Lake, Chicago, Denver: I'm talking to you!) In episode three of the Metafilter Music Podcast, I do an interview with Jim "InfidelZombie" Whitter, and play music by Devils Rancher, es_de_bah, umbú (again!), Baby_Balrog, greekphilosophy, and Potomac Avenue. The show runs about 39 and a half minutes.

Hallelujah, Hoarse (cover)

I thought I'd take one for the team and kick off June's "Cover Hallelujah" Music challenge. This is a scratch recording I made about a year ago when I was home sick and had lost most of my voice. If you ever wanted to hear Excessively Husky-Voiced Cortex, this is your chance.

FLEE!, a simple flash game I'm teaching myself AS3/Flash, and this is my first attempt at a game. It's very simple, and has a combinatoric soundtrack based on nine improvised counterpoint-ish things I recorded yesterday.

Monotonethumping

An attempt to create a recording of the late-90s boozehound anthem Tubthumping that sounds as flat and obnoxious as the hundredth chorus of fratboys singing along with it did by the end of that decade. Happy St. Paddy's Day!

My attempt to exorcise some high school nostalgia. The lyrics are as dumb as they always were, but now there's banjo and mandolin!

I made Look At This Cat because I figured there...

Look At This Cat! I made Look At This Cat because I figured there are a lot of cats out there that people should look at. And I don't see why that has to involve like crazy Web 2.0 crap when all you really need is some pictures of cats and the ability to say to yourself "hey, look at that, that is one great cat right there".

"a story of great potential overwhelmed by a genius for acts of pointless economic self-destruction"

People with a keen strategic sense maintain a well-diversified hoard of coins and painstakingly build alliances with local shopkeepers or bank tellers, conspicuously proffering coins for one purchase or deposit in the hopes of being indulged when they're short of change at some point in the future. Argentina's coinage problem.

Wheel in the Sky (bluegrass cover)

As requested by uncleozzy. I'd like to think this is a song sung by a hard-travelin' man dreaming of his girl—a girl with beautiful long black hair, and a high, soaring voice; Old Man Perry's daughter, Stephanie.

It's Jay!

A less-than-one-minute theme song I wrote five years ago for a fictional sitcom about a guy I worked with at the time. A music challenge twofer that I have had in the can for half a decade.
