Back up firefox bookmarks as shortcut files?
OK, I just tried this out, and it works like a charm. I hope this is what you're looking for, that I've understood you correctly.
Simply export your favorites using Firefox to an easy place like your desktop. Then open up IE7 and import that file. Your Documents & Settings 'Favorites' folder will update with the FF bookmarks. Now, as long as you have FF set as your default browser, those shortcuts should open up in FF tabs.

Unwanted compliment
Some people offer compliments with the expectation of a compliment in return. Offering self-effacement alongside lets out even more line for your flattering reply. As for what you should say, stay away from anything that equates thin with good and overweight with bad. Compliment their fashion style, facial features, or hair, and mean it.

Oh, haha, the funk is strong with Betty Davis. (If I'm in luck, I might just get picked best.)

EndsOfInvention: Yep, I sure do have a big crappy tower up on my desk. I use it during the day, but will try powering it off completely when I sleep at night.
tomble: Unfortunately, the vents are fixed. Tinting is a good suggestion...but probably not an option.

LionIndex: Yes the living room window (which I forgot in the diagram) is shaded until late afternoon. I don't know about the insulation in this building, but the closet wall I share with the kitchen houses the water heater. Again, I couldn't tell you if those closet walls are insulated behind the sheetrock, but the unit itself is bare. I can look into fixing that, I guess. Any specific recommendations?

Okay, after a few days fooling around with different arrangements, I think I've figured out what's happening. LionIndex is right; when my door is open the cold air from the vent is being sucked out the top of my door frame and into the living room before it has a chance to circulate in the bedroom. When the door is closed there isn't enough room underneath for good airflow, and the pressure keeps the air from flowing through the vent. I don't know if widening the space beneath the door would... How can I make myself into a better manager?
Approach them individually, on neutral but private territory. Praise their strengths, and give concrete examples of the things they do well. Since you want to get more done, have goals for your team and establish a metric for measuring work towards those goals. Demonstrate how they will individually contribute towards the goal. Remind them of their job priorities (when I worked retail it was pounded into my brain that congregation and chatty conversation were the antithesis to good customer... [more]

Air conditioning the outdoors?
I've never seen an air-conditioned gas station forecourt, but I have seen several serviced by evaporative coolers. These look and sound a lot like air conditioners, but don't use as much energy (only enough to run a water pump and a fan) and don't cool the air as well. They also aren't meant to operate on a closed loop. More often I've seen them used in open-stall mechanics' bays to move the air through the building.
However, yes, another front-door-open to... [more]

Mt. Lemmon outside of Tucson is nice, generally about 10-20 degrees cooler than the city (which is generally about 10 degrees cooler than Phoenix...so you're lookin' at about mid- to high-80's). The small town, Summerhaven, is probably completely rebuilt by now. It burned down a few years ago. There's also a ski resort that will winch you up to the peak on the lift—the view at the top is breathtaking.

A fairly small city, Tucson is surrounded on three sides by the Sonoran Desert, and to the north lie the Santa Catalina Mountains. The weather in Tucson come March can be a bit unpredictable; the last time it snowed in Tucson it was Easter. However, the climate is... [more]

I need a little dog advice, and a lot of roommate advice. Help me get a good night's sleep!
My roommate and I are great friends, and the only reservation I had when we moved in together was her 25lb. cocker spaniel. I'd known the dog since it was a puppy, and it was a frickin' hassle, you know? jumping on everything it could reach, peeing everywhere, and a yap that wouldn't stop. Since we've lived together, however, he's been a better dog than I expected. Not only is it naturally calmer having lived through puppyhood and finally getting fixed (is this JRT fixed? that can help a LOT... [more]
