I'm in the market for some web design. In the short term, I need a good freelance person who's hip to XHTML, CSS, usability, etc, not a flash or photoshop-doc-cut-up-with-fireworks person. I'm having a hard time finding people like this via craigslist, monster, friends, etc. Is there a secret website where all the submitters to
CSS Zen Garden go to look for freelance gigs? If you are an awesome designer, how would you be most likely to hear about my job?

How did the
Special-Use IPv4 Addresses get to be that way? In the
relevant IRCs it says what the special address ranges are, but I can't find anywhere how, say, 192.168.0.0/16 ended up reserved for private networks. Were there just a bunch of nerds sitting around one day who were like, "193...no, no, that's no good. How about 192?"

Spanish dogs say "guau guau".
Did you ever read comics or something in a language other than your cradle tongue and notice that onomatopoetic words, particularly for animal sounds, are different in different languages? This webpage has animal sounds from loads of languages, organized by language and animal. Indonesian dogs say "gonggong".

Princeton president pines for peculiar persons.
"Princeton University's new president, Shirley Tilghman, says her campus has a problem: not enough weirdos. 'I would like to think we could begin to attract students with green hair. We will take pink and blue and orange hair, too.'" The rest of the article is pretty bland, but that quote is hilarious.
