MeFi Fantasy Baseball 2008!
We're back again for our 3rd year as a free 5x5 Roto league on Yahoo. We've got 9 managers currently, and I'm looking to get 12-14.

MeFi's Eternal September is nigh, what with the holidays coming and Mac market share rising. Is there anything we can/should do to head off the inevitable flood of "I just got my Mac, now what?" questions that are already asked over and over in AskMe?

What used to be a forum for bugs, feature requests, and the occasional callout for really egregiously bad behavior has devolved into a whinefest for anyone with a keyboard and a grudge.
YOU ALL NEED TO STEP AWAY.
Can we shut down MetaTalk for a week? I'm completely serious. The contact form is still there for emergencies.

MeFi Fantasy Baseball 2007!!!: It's back! We had a great time last year with 14 teams, and I'd like to run the same deal again- 5X5 Roto, daily lineups. A few changes I'd like to incorporate:
- Fewer pitching slots.
- $5 fee, to cover Yahoo Fantasy Plus (sorry folks, the free service is just lame) and 2 prizes: League Winner, and Most Improved (in points as of the All-Star break)
If you're interested, please drop me a line via my profile. I'd like to cut it off at 15 teams, with preference given to teams who played last year. I'm also open to (reasonable) rule change requests once we've gotten all the managers.

Why is
this thread still around? I know at least one admin has seen it, since my snarky response was removed. Is it now OK to ask for piracy how-to's?

Is there still a MeFi Cafepress store? Specifically, the baseball jerseys with the user number.

MeFi Fantasy BB Update: We're looking for 3 owners to take over for
certain folks who have abandoned their teams after less than a month. They're all "fixer-upper" teams, but two are currently in 6th & 7th (out of 12) place.

MeFi Fantasy Baseball! Anyone up for some last-minute shenanigans? I could throw together a free Yahoo 5x5 Roto league if there's enough interest. Draft would probably be Sunday.

Is it possible to engage in a debate with a Conservative on MeFi without calling him a troll? I give you
this example.

The other one should be axed, not this one. I couldn't agree more. I know this has happened before- someone writing a well-crafted post is beaten (by about ten minutes) to the punch by a
hastily-made, one-link post. I realize that technically, the "first" post wins, but shouldn't exceptions be made for cases like this? It's rewarding speed over substance.

Are usernames becoming recycled? I noticed
a new user that I could have sworn had a taken username- it's a username I use often and almost always check for first when signing up places. Or am I imagining all of this?

I know there's already a NYC Meetup scheduled for Feb., but I just saw that MeFi darling Kaki King is playing every Tuesday in February at the Knitting Factory. Any interest in either changing the meetup (disclaimer: I discovered I can't make the previously-arranged one) or having another brouhaha?

Multi-questioned AskMe post. It's a particularly (IMHO) obnoxious kind of transgression, in that there's no way to claim it's anything other than an attempt to circumvent policy that's in place for good reason. Can the post page make the "one question per post" point more clearly?

Is it possible to log in to MeFi using the BlueBerry browser? login_action.cfm just throws up a blank page.

Amazon referral links in posts. grabbingsand
caught another user
linking to Amazon with his own referral code in a post. How do people feel about this? A personal referral code is (IMHO) obnoxious, but what happens when people start slipping in referral codes to political sites? Is there even any way to catch this?
(previously discussed a while back)

This post is nothing more than a mini op-ed piece about the top news story (at the time) that takes up too much real estate on the home page and has been discussed to death already. IMO, if your FPP has one link and needs a "more inside...", you need to rethink it's place here.

What's the deal with people posting a comment whose sole content is "."? Example
here, but I've been seeing it more and more. Perhaps I missed out on some kewl new meme, but it just seems like lazy, bandwidth-sucking, "me too" ego stroking.

We all hate "Pepsi Blue" posts, but what if they're
part of a pattern? [more inside]
