I can certainly understand the general concerns of Norton, rushmc, et al. However, as Kottke observed some time ago, the volume of the conversations on MeFi, MeTa, and AskMetafilter requires the user to a) give up, b) selectively edit on the fly, or c) take the Irving Tobin route. Some time ago I created a personal portal with links to my favorite MeFi participants' user pages. When work or family priorities limit my surfing, I can at least get a feel for what's been happening by scanning... [more]

Beholder, we probably shouldn't try to legislate (that's not the right word, but you know what I mean) the way "hot-button" posts look, even though--let's face it--this one ain't so hot. IMHO, it's not just the use of small fonts (which should be used sparingly, if at all) that makes this post troublesome. There seem to be too many links. I am interested in perusing them, but I'll have to shelve it and get back to it when I have more time, which will probably never happen. When you combine the small font blockquote AND the multiple links, I really think the reader is dicouraged from digging in to the post.
